What are you listening to right now?

The Warning is on this morning, and the bass is so good I just want to spend the whole day trying to learn their songs instead of working. Ale is sneaky funky.

My girlfriend recently found this criminally obscure artist called Marci. She does a lot of late 70s early 80s style stuff that’s really reminiscent of Japanese City Pop of that era. Looked up her YT channel and was shocked that she only had 1k subscriber and just a few thousand views per video. Amazing vocal talent and range.

I would even say that is straight up City Pop. Sounds very much like it.

It really is, and given the recent mini-revival of City Pop, especially on the internet with western audiences, I’m surprised she’s not a lot bigger than she is. Maybe she’s bigger in Asia, since a comment on one of her videos mentioned first ever hearing her playing in a store in Korea.

What a time to be a fan of heavy music. Live version with the Kamis as backup

This song continues to blow up, which is good for hard rock and metal.

#1 on the Billboard Streaming songs sold in the US. First Asian band to have a #1 hit in the US

Yeah, I need to hammer out something from Hooky and Simon at some point. I’ve played plenty of Cure songs, a few from Hooky (mostly New Order though).

I’m (slowly) doing a New Order cover right now. Drums are mostly done, need to go in and add fills. Then bass is next.

New Mono album. Thank you Pelagic.

Just discovered these guys recently. This is from their Red Rocks concert last night. Really great stuff here! At about 33 minutes in the bassist is laying down the groove while literally laying down on the stage. These guys are something else!

Anybody else a Parcels fan?

I haven’t been to a show up at Red Rocks since before Covid. Amazing venue.

While Hooky is my bass hero, cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel are my synth heroes.
