What are you listening to right now?

Yeah! They are really good, kind of late in the genre but still solid, really have a first-wave goth sound.

I remember when this song first dropped. So good. Not even their strongest offering but definitely the one most people heard first.

@howard This is right up my street, thanks for sharing :sunglasses:. I love this sound but am not so knowledgeable about the scene so hadn’t heard of them before.

I had a quick listen to some of their other stuff but this track is actually my fav so far.

Mine too actually. You might like the rest of the album it is on, “A Day” on it and “Muscoviet Mosquito” on their previous album are some of their other better known tracks for early Xymox.

The kids today would just call this Darkwave

Another one you might like

Excellent bass (and bass player).

And also prime use of my synth at the time, an Ensoniq ESQ-1. I liked these guys a lot, like most other Nettwerk bands back then. These guys toured with Xymox too

Actually both you and @faydout would probably dig this too:

That and its predecessor are both really cool.

A Day is my favorite by Clan of Xymox but their stuff from last century was mostly really good imo. I like “Darkwave” btw. I think it’s a solid genre name.

ETA: @saroohoo this is another one of theirs you might like. This one’s got a chill vibe to it.

Gordon Lightfoot was a real talent. I too enjoy his work, Uncle.

You might like my favorite band then

If you do, start with the albums Remission and Bites, then ViViSectVI, then Too Dark Park, then Last Rites, then the rest. Not in quality order or anything, just easing you in to them

Avoid The Process and the rest of Rabies for now (unless you like ‘90s Industrial Metal - these two albums were kind of a digression for them)

Dude! You don’t send the uninitiated straight to Puppy. Start them off with a little Everyday is Halloween, maybe a little Headhunter (Front 242) and work up to Worlock

I love all of Puppies stuff but it’s kind of a shock to the system if you aren’t ready for it. There’s a reason they used it to torture people at Gitmo.

Well to be fair I did start with Clan of Xymox and Moev. Maybe something like Manufacture or Severed Heads are a smaller next step.

Kind of like I usually work people backwards from Delerium through Intermix and finally to Front Line Assembly for Bill Leeb/Rhys Fulber.

Some of you may know I’m a huge David Lynch fan - he and Chrysta Bell just came out with a new album (yes, he has several prior). As per all things Lynchian, it’s pushing boundaries of what music is. I dig it, you may not. Lynch claims if to listen to it 3 times you will fall in love with it.

I was just going to bring a little 90s FLA to this mix with Mindphaser.

I love the cyberpunk short film of a video this one has.

You can start with “Assimilate” and build from that one…

Yeah that’s why I recommended Bites early, or better, Remission. Far Too Frail, Smothered Hope and Glass Houses are a good intro.

Always loved that video

I wonder why Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Neon Judgement and The Cassandra Complex are not mentioned?! No love for them?

Lots of it, but I do trend more Nettwerk than Wax Trax myself.

Tons of good ebm stuff though too, sure. Also A Split Second, Bigod 20, Luc Van Acker, etc etc.

And of course there’s always Cabaret Voltaire.
