Holy crap this is amazing. Testament to how good Kate and Cindy are. Cindy’s light vocal fry really stands out in a cool way there too.
More blast from the past, some local shoegaze.
Their name (and overall theme of this video) has always amused me. Shinda boku no kanojo - “My Dead Girlfriend”. The Japanese part of the song name is roughly “If she laughs coldy…”.
Also I like her subtle use of synth (MicroKorg I think). The birds she glued to it add a nice touch.
what a great story.
More local shoegaze/indie rock, with another cute name (trans: “17 years old and the Berlin Wall”).
Some great bass tone in there. Can’t quite tell what she’s playing there besides it being a custom looking J.
Ahh, it’s a Psychederythm. Yes, local custom brand, looks like a Psychederythm Limited Standard-J, about $2-3k new. Nice instruments Here’s a later model with slightly different headstock coloring.
I dig the Ravonettes. Just saw them at the beginning of June. That was a show that I was glad to have my fancy earplugs for, holy crap they were loud. This one is still my favorite of theirs.
Stevie is an amazing talented musician!
Was the original version of the bass licks played on a clavinet?
I have no idea @Frank_Beard. It was said to be Stevie on keyboard bass (I had to look up clavinet) . It is a damn creative bass line. I do wish Ivca Kejzlarova had shown her pedals and settings.
Time for some more sonic DARKNESS
Nothing like when something from the past grabs you. We didn’t know just how good it was back then, especially now as students in the game. Real vocals. Real instruments. Creative. lines and songs that still crush, and all those studio guys and band instrumentalist who, like Cheers, nobody knows their names.
And not just the music my friend (sigh.)
