Tonight I found out that this was originally a Simon and Garfunkel song…
Also the Bangles version/bassline isn’t as hard as it sounds.
Adam’s Song…cause I feel like shit.
Having some rough patches this week too. I’m ADHD as it gets and I tend to be all in on things and eventually I cool off and everything goes to s***.
Sinice becoming unemployed (my version of being outcast from society) bass hass been my new shiny thing, something I can get better at and give myself some meaning.
Lately I’ve been starting to psych myself out, you’ll never be good, you are wasting your time, this isn’t fun.
Of course I know all of that negativity is bs.
Being good only comes from hard work. Usually after about 30 mins of practice I’m practically in tears of joy because I can play through a new song I love. My bass face is my smile sometimes
Anyway I hope you are good bass brother. I know I dropped my own rant there but everyone has bad days, some of us have real bad days but give that bass a hug and when life sucks put yourself into practice and getting better. Having one thing you can control helps.
You can also watch Josh’s videos. His beloved quirkiness can cheer up anyone’s day.
I hear you! I am like a pitbull. I grab hold of things and won’t let go…then I let go, get depressed until I find my next outlet. Reducing all carbs and vegetables (don’t tell Josh) significantly and moving more will probably help you. Call me crazy if you want. Be kind to yourself Matty.
So to follow on to Band Name with story.
So I have been listening to some KPop lately, they have good vocals and progressions but mostly fluffy pop stuff. One band caught my eye - G-Idle.
Quick summary - G-Idle is managed by an incompetent indie company, Cube. When the group was in training, Cube would not give them studio time or a song to debut with. So Soyeon, one of the members, took her laptop, wrote a song, pirated software, recorded and mixed it, and presented it to Cube, wanting to be called Idle as a group name.
Cube didn’t like Idle and changed it to G-Idle, but they debuted, and had a couple years of moderate success. Then came the scandal, someone made accusations against one of the members, Soojin, which were never proved but she was dropped from Idle, and for almost 18 months G-Idle was shelved by Cube - no appearances, music, social media.
This song is their comeback. No fluff, Soyeon was pissed and came out swinging. The song became an all kill - hit #1 on all 9 Kpop charts.
Soyeon writes the lyrics, arranges the music, produces it, oversees the video shoot. The music she co-writes with someone named Yumi Tone, which is a name in itself.
Anyway, Tomboy. Toward the end they take back their name, Idle.
Soyeon does the “why are you cranky boy”
Right now I’m listening to Maurice Ravel’s Bolèro.
And thinking about making it my next bass line cover challenge.
The most pleasing piece of music with a very simple repetitive riff that never develops, but goes from a single flute to an entire orchestra, for 15 minutes.
I can see this being a great way to try out different octaves and different styles (pick, slap, tap, hammer ons) throughout.

Love Bjork, I’ve been working on getting Human Behavior down for about a week now.
I’m playing a lot of Tony Levin lately and really digging the Peter Gabriel years.
Easier than the King Crimson years and still super cool.
STEAM
I was watching a documentary or something and for some of Peter Gabriel’s albums he went cymbal free. There might be a shaker or clap but no cymbals. I think they said he didn’t like the extra noise it added.
I’ve seen Peter with Tony and I don’t recall that but I will be checking some vids later.
I don’t hear any cymbals in my minds recall of any Peter songs after Genesis, but I will do a deep dive… Pretty cool.
I’m on a big Infected Rain kick right now. They do such big intensity changes in a great way, sort of like Jinjer.
