What are you listening to right now?

I remember getting in trouble for sitting in church while I was doing confirmation classes as a kid blasting Mind on the radio in the chapel.

I went to a small Baptist college, and would wear my Ministry t-shirt (It was the New World Order t-shirt from Psalm 69) while on stage in the chapel band. I know a few people knew what Ministry was, but most probably thought it was church ministry I was advertising.

Pastor walked during So What…

I had also already gone full goth by then.

I was always easily triggered music-wise that is… and grew up 12 years of Catholic school. Whenever the nuns would talk about the “stone being rolled” away in the context of Easter Sunday my mind went to these 2 songs.
I am not sure if it was blasphemous to have such thoughts, but when I told the priest the story in confession he chuckles a bit.
He told me sing 5 Hail Mary’s but to do it silently.

Right now I’m alternating between enjoying the aggressive sounds of Trigger’s battle theme from Zenless Zone Zero and the more mellow sounds of Causa Sui’s Euporie Tide.

I think Unlucky Morpheus did an anime soundtrack last year, will try and track it down.

Edit: here it is

That’s funny, right there! I know both versions, but much prefer the Leon Russell one. The old upright piano tone and sparse backing instruments suit the song perfectly.

I love those old uprights. Tommy Davis, the younger brother of Tim Davis (drummer on the first Steve Miller Band album “Brave New World”) was a great pianist, even in high school. He taught me how to tack the hammers on the upper 4 octaves (middle C and up), and play honky tonk with the right hand and boogie woogie with the left. Damn, but it sounded so good.

Speaking of that album, I just had to go to YT and play Space Cowboy! Here’s Tim on the drums.

I saw these guys live recently and I’ve had them on non-stop since then.

A little funk and funk, 49 & 50 to be exact… with Mr. Sklar quite prominent on the first one (he has a cool beard.)

they were always a favorite all time band and me and my wife luckily would see them religiously when they would come to chicago. unfortunately they broke up a few years ago. howevs, there was recently a huge bluegrass/traditional music fest (i think it was in washington?) and the headlining act was… yep. i’m not sure if it was a one time reunion or if they plan on doing stuff again, but very exciting. btw tix for it were reserve VIP only and were insanely sell your kidney expensive. and yes, she could quite possibly be the most talented person alive.

I have all 4 of his German lyrics albums. They’re really good. Sometimes, the translations are better than the original English.
