What are you smoking?

Might be a reference to weed … and meant to be funny!

Sh#t was used as a synonym for weed in Germany in the 70s…

On this side of the pond (you know, next door to Mexico?), there was either “good shit” or just “this is shit.”

One variety was far preferable to the other.

Hahaha … on this side of the pond it was “good sh#t” (from Holland … we have really optimized the sh#t out of it!) or “bad sh#t” (from Germany … sometimes “enhanced” with lead fumes, to make it heavier = more revenue for the dealers).

According to my friends that has not changed a lot!

I was never one to use it but the idea it would be altered (negatively) and people would still buy it is so weird to me. It was all over the place in Oregon (literally, like in some parts of the state wild strains of ditch weed simply grew outside naturally and you could find it out in nature while hiking and stuff). Probably the only place more abundant was down in Humboldt, which was of course not all that far, same climate really.

Hey Frank, I have never had a pipe clog on me before. Not sure what could cause that. There is definitely a lot of ritual with smoking a pipe.
And as you say, the flavors and aroma add to the enjoyment.

I have a small pipe collection, but I gave up on tobacco pretty much completely several years back. I found that nicotine just amps me up and makes my heart race too much for comfort.

Occasionally enjoy a few hits of marijuana off a vape pen. I’ve found I most enjoy live resin cartridges.

Thank you, @Frank_Beard !

It really explains all the communication issues I have in English

@Whying_Dutchman , I appreciate your different perspective. Meanings can get lost in the written word, especially with different language barriers. I would like for @Lanny to reply, perhaps it is in fact a really good double entendre joke on us and he was giving us sh!t (LOL.)

At first I read it as if he was actually offended. But, I have learned over the decades to bite my tongue (and step back from the keyboard) before replying to someone if I happen to initially take offense. Life is too short to be pissed at other people.

Although I don’t anymore, I used to have a weekly cigar/whiskey hang out with my brother. We both stopped due to health reasons that smoking, even occasionally, would exacerbate. But it was a realxing chance to hang out and relax. Sometimes we’d even play some music.

My preferred cigar brand was H. Upmann. Even through some good fortune and loose interpretation of rules, acquired a few Cuban made cigars. They hype is real on the quality of cubans in my opinion.

As far as the “wacky tobacky”, have never partook. Have recently tried edibles, I can honestly take it or leave it.

In fact, I love miscommunication!
My best friend asked my girlfriend once, how she can bear to be with me, and she answered: “it’s basically miscommunication!”.

I loved the response, as miscommunication is the foundation of many many funny things! I use it a lot, even when I know what’s what ^^

So, I’m also curious if @lanny is a funny guy/gal/something else … or hardcore straight edge, like Henry Rollins used to be

I can’t do any of the fun stuff because I’m a federal emplyee, but I voted for it back in 2012 (first state in the US to legalize it for recreational use btw) because I’m not a hater and legal weed was the dream when I was 16 and doing it every day. If that user was a real straight edge, they’d have had just as much of an issue with the what are you sipping thread. They just have some stick up their butt about a perfectly legal, taxed, and regulated vice that’s less harmful than alcohol.

Except when he is from another country, where it’s forbidden. Not everybody lives in the US … yet

For drugs in general (no matter if they are legal - alcohol included - or illegal) , I read a great quote in an excellent book of Alexander Shulgin (TIKHAL): “Your body is your kingdom!”
Whatever people do to themselves is nobody’s business. Only when they start doing stuff to others, there are rules to follow…

Lanny’s an OG that’s been around forever, joined about when a bunch of us did 5 years ago. We’ve known him online feels like forever now, which is why I expected better, he’s made a lot of great contributions in the past.

He’s raised unhappiness with the direction the forum is taking before. We’ll see if he elaborates.

Not promoting any substance use (especially abuse) or anything but certain things that are legal in certain states are a great way to replace alcoholism.

I wouldn’t know or anything much about it, but I know a guy who all but stopped alcohol because of it. It changed his life.

It was also a super big help with the chronic pain he’s lived with for 20+ years. It also helped him shut his brain off and sleep at night. Unfortunately, I hear that guy is unemployed and now looking for a new job and is too afraid of pre-employment tests so he’s just living with pain and playing a lot of bass guitar to cope.
