What are you struggling with?

I’m upset with all the time I had that I could have spent practicing in the past, I’m getting better at practicing now but still need to write out schedules.
I get distracted alot and forget trivial things like brushing my teeth, LOL.

Anyway, I’m working on the chorus riff of “Come on, Come over” currently going really slow (40 BPM lmao) but it’s the FEELING. I’d say I’m moderately knowledgeable about 16th notes, but I’ve never really tried to play this 16th note funk style before.

And the ghost notes… They feel awkward, probably should have chosen a slower song to work on them with but basic exercises will be just fine.

And progress on going back though B2B has been rough. I was on a roll a few days ago and now starting to fall off again. gotta get my sh#t together!!!

I feel I want to keep going but it’s hard when you’re glued to a screen. It would help greatly if my bass was next to me as much as possible. Maybe the idea of having an acoustic bass in the bathroom isn’t so outlandish after all

I will post more updates, Stay epic

Having a dedicated practice space/corner really is super important, a lot of times it’s hard for me to pick myself up and go practice especially in summer or when working night shifts.
I arranged everything so I can start playing within a minute, then I set the bar really low, I tell myself I only have to play for 10 minutes or so and It doesn’t even have to be good
The result: over 90 mins. of practice daily and feeling good about myself and I always try to notice a little progress ,sometimes in the smallest detail, but progress is always there

My happy place…

I focussed a lot on hitting the right notes … and noticed that I s#ck at rhythm now :frowning:
Very frustrating!

Practice daily with a drum app (lots available, some are free) or a drum pedal. Nobody needs another bass. But everyone needs to practice with drums and work on their shitty timing.

Make the thing easily accessible so it’s super simple to turn it on.

This is a fact. I know I’m right on this one.

Yeah!
Wanted to avoid that, but now I can’t stand my own playing anymore

I would rather use a windows app or (better) vst though.

Any thoughts?

Sorry I don’t know Windows as I use Mac.

Just get something that’s an easy mouse click away to encourage you to practice every day with drums.

I’ve got hundreds of hours on that Beat Buddy and it’s definitely improved my playing.

Slapping.

OK… in M13… L1 managed, no issue. L2… had to swap to the 6 string bass because I can’t make the Sterling sound properly on Slap.

On the MS… it goes smoothly… just need a bit more dexterity in fretting hand.

What the hell could I be doing wrong on the 4 string ?

By Sterling, is it a Stingray? If so this is traditionally a good bass for slap. Unless, say, you put flats on it or something.

EB Rounds. And yes, the Stingray.

I am suspecting it might need a better setup. I do it easily on any string on the Ibby… suffering as hell to make it properly on Sterling.

You really want to go with a pretty low setup to slap.

Tbf… it is pretty low…

Sterling: 3.8mm
Ibby: 4.0mm

I run mine around 2mm

Yeah 3.8 is very high action. 2-2.5mm for me.

3.8mm high? o0 If I lower the Sterling more, fretting will be crazy.
But the Ibby at 4mm is sounding like a charm.

That’s really high. You are working too hard every time you fret a note.

Yeah sounds like the bass needs a setup badly.

Went to get another ruler… (from the setup kit - was going to learn before I broke my hand)

2mm on Sterling
Just under 2.5mm on Ibby.

So they are not bad.

Same slap technique… ibby I get percussion and note. Sterling only percussion.
I can get a better sound if I pluck to 5 o’clock instead of 11 o’clock… but yeah

Ok they’re much better numbers.

I’d just buy another bass to solve the problem. Right @howard

Maybe a Yamaha?
