What bass are you buying next?

Yes, you can do quite well under $1000.

Fender makes good Jazz basses, but they’re not the only ones. My motto for Fender is you can buy better but you can’t pay more.

The G&L Tribute JB is about $600 and is designed by Leo Fender. It’s a good one.

My current Jazz bass is a Squier Paranormal for all of $430 new. I had Sweetwater upgrade it with a set of Seymour Duncan Apollo pickups. I had two Player Jazz at the time to but I sold them. The Squier plays and sounds better. The Apollo’s are hum cancelling pickups.

Shecter makes J4 bass which is string through body.

If I were in the market for an intermediate Jazz, it would be one of those three.

If I had $1100 to spend, it would be a Reverend Mercali hands down. Roasted maple neck, string through bridge, and 3 jazz pickups with a 5 way selector switch to configure them.

Used market would be where I start though. I see a used Player Plus Jazz by Fender out there right now under a grand

I don’t need any more basses at the moment. What I have serves my needs just fine.

I’ve mentioned this before, but my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz was <$300 used. I put Tom Brantley custom Geddy Lee pickups in it and a Lindey Fralin pre-wired control plate to clean up the wiring and upgrade to CTS pots and a Switchcraft output jack. Add another $130 for a good luthier to install everything and give it a solid setup, and I’m all in at $650ish. The neck is excellent; the bass plays like a dream. I would happily put it up against any MIA Fender out there.

I was really looking forward to Christmas because I wanted to buy myself my dream bass … Rickenbacker. But I have no clue when I will be able to play on full throttle. But atm. I am starting to think about buying some cheap bass platform to fiddle around with that.

I’m idly considering another guitar but I doubt I’ll do it. Basses I am good for - the two I have are perfect for me. The idea of a hollow body had me interested in an Ibanez AGB like @terb bought recently but I don’t know if I will do it. They are really inexpensive here though and look nice, might try one. We’ll see.

I am likely to buy another synthesizer soon though I definitely don’t “need” one, I’ve just wanted it for a while now.

no bass in my scope for now … what I would like to build is some kind of barncaster bass with very old reclaimed wood I have in my barn, and a Squier Bronco neck (30") that I already own. some sort a bass version of this kind of thing :

otherwise, I might start to search for a small used bass amp, for casual playing with friends at home.

That’s the idea of the century, wish you the best. Update us when it’s done!

Looks like a really interesting idea, Laurent @terb . . .

Good luck to you if you decide to go ahead with it! :+1:

I made one a while back from pine. My wife wasn’t thrilled, but I think it came out ok.

LOL

Telecaster IKEA signature (although they’d probably call it a Telekastvikk and make it available only through the IKEA Family program in three separate boxes to put together).

I have the tidepool blue one on order but there is no stock. If I want to reorder it from somewhere else with stock it’ll be $300 more. Crazy how prices have gone up.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep my order open and see if I get it in spring. I ordered it at $650 CDN and it’s now $1000.
