What is/are your target song(s)?

I have set myself the challenge of learning my first full ALBUM:

‘Abraxas’ by Santana

Songs aren’t terribly difficult individually, but just the target to be able to play a full album is something to conquer. Also, these are some fun songs with some really interesting rhythms. Not a left hand challenge as much as a right hand challenge.

Right now my target songs are whatever is on the 100 Song list that Josh put together. I haven’t gotten to that point yet, but I’ll start at the easy ones and go from there.

Geddy is the way. :jbass: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :+1:

Anything and all things Rush…

My bass diet is 80% Rush, almost everything else feels like a warm up,

YYZ or bust.

These are two of the most challenging songs for bass, ever. :jbass: :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Long term and dorky: I want to be able to play both simple bass and melody while singing and hitting a kick drum to Nilsson’s “Coconut,” one-person-band style, yo. Check back in a year or so?

Lot of fun stuff here; I look forward to being able to play even a third of these reliably. Joan Jett is a rewarding addition. OTOH, you forgot Lemmy’s ümläüts.

That was fun.

I love this song. My aunt used to sing it all the time, and it reminds me of Alan Wake.

Love this song, it’s in my main rotation on YouTube music. I want to say Danny Sapko has a video somewhere where he thinks they were the inspiration for Spinal Tap.

This is stupid but I loved to play this reel on the violin and was always curious if it could be played on bass. I guess it can
Anyone wants to struggle with me?
”Drowsy Maggie” copied from violin sheet music using the free noteflight version:

Noteflight for BassBuzz has really given me a lot of hope for my learning ability. I am working on Another One Bites the Dust by Queen.

Y’all are talking about learning songs, I’m over here just trying to tame my befuddled fingers on the fretboard for the intro😅

But hey, at least my timing is getting better and it almost actually sounds like “music”

Absolutely! I was amazed by how much you can do in the free noteflight version, the possibility to listen to the scores helps a lot

The translated song is unfortunately way too hard for me still, but I’m having fun trying to play a familiar tune bit by bit.

My biggest struggle at the moment is to keep breathing while playing and not getting too confused with the plucking hand :joy:. In the triad lesson I started plucking with 3 fingers when attempting to do the thumb move from pickup to e-string .

Do you play Transmission using alternate picking?

Transmission and Bela Lugosi’s Dead are on my list also.

Yep, I just can’t the staccato parts down. Bela is just waiting till closer to Halloween to record. I’ve got it down 110%.

Psycho Killer is a great song and fun to play, but for me at first it was quite the workout, like going to the bass gym, it’s busy, I’d sweat a bit while playing it, but that didn’t last long, it was one of my goals.

Billie Jean, just kidding, I don’t want to get sucked into that vortex.

Joe Walsh - Life of Illusion

David Lindley - Quarter of a Man

Boz Scaggs - King of El Paso

Stan Ridgeway - several of his songs but I can’t find them anywhere except on my CDs

You guys should take a stab at Disorder too. It’s difficult but super rewarding when you get it. You’re both likely better than I was when we did it.
