Well without shit talking The Ramones (who I like), there’s a big technical difference between them and a lot of John Deacon’s bass lines.
Try Songster. Full sized tab and if you pay for the subscription you can slow down / loop sections etc. I use it to learn all the songs for our band. Toggle between synth so you can hear the bass line and original to play along with the original recording.

that would be useful, but its just not worth it to me for £10 per month to try and learn the odd song every few months. i look at the free version now and then but i find it more miss than hit.
i dont mind putting in a bit of work to get to a goal for ME, but to spend a fair bit of time trying to learn something just because my mate asked me to….. im not sure 
i may try a different tack. try and work out the root notes and play those only, and then when im used to the song itself, try and embellish it with pentatonic notes here and there, see if i can build something unique to me. im sure that will sound sh1t compared to the original, but its something id like to do in general anyway, learn how to create my own lines from a guitarists chords.

Regarding memorizing notes when you can’t see a patter, yeah. When I get in those situations I will try to look at other songs by the same band or bass player. Sometimes you can start seeing other patterns show up that kinda helps you understand how that person was thinking, which helps you see/understand the other patterns.
And other times I just get humbled 
@Shinyribs i’m having a bit more success with it doing it this way. basic root notes for the first couple of verses and bridge but ive no idea what to noodle away at for the ‘solo’, i’ll have a look at my pentatonic charts and see if i can come up with something 
and once i can play it all the way through with root notes (and an improvised solo), ill try and expand a bit in the lead ups.

Well then don’t do it and learn something you want to. You will die at some point. Do things that bring you joy.
There are millions of other songs to learn that’ll improve your playing.
However John Deacon is awesome.

Play to your strengths. Mine is simplifying the song down to the recognizable notes. I’m a Rush fan, but playing like Geddy is far and away anything I can do, but to make it fun, and to make what I play sound like the song, I just try to hit the main key notes.
If later I feel like filling it in I’ll do it after I’m comfortable playing without music in front of me.
I realized I had not looked for any Linkin Park basslines so far.
So what I started with was ‘What I’ve done’ super simple, Drop D and chug along ghe 4 chords root
Next is Given Up from the same album. Bit trickier especially that walking bridge, but also really satisfying.
I will revisit this band of my childhood more often for sure
September - Earth Wind & Fire. I remember trying this song like right after I finished B2B and it scared me off. Coming back to it now a couple years later and it’s not so bad. Having fun with it

Just started Life of Illusion by Joe Walsh. Fun so far.
Working on a few songs from the “song pack”, which seems to be going very nicely, but… I noticed something, It’s hard to come by Rolling Stone’s tracks. Anybody learn some, any recomendations? I think I would like a couple under my belt. Satisfaction and Paint it Black might be good choices..?

Lol, I play around with a few of the songs off of Garlands (including Garlands). One of these days I’ll actually record Blind Dumb Deaf on bass and the 2 guitar lines. I’m also working on Wolf in the Breast off of Heaven or Las Vegas. That’s a fun bassline.
Highly, highly recommend a pick for Cocteau Twins bass. Especially Will’s stuff. So much quick suncopation.
I just did Honky Tonk Women and popped it up on the “post your covers 2026” thread. That was a fun one to learn.
Absolutely. Man, I really like Simon Raymonde’s songs too, but I wish Will Heggie had stayed aboard.
Garlands is by far my favorite Cocteaus album (unless you count The Pink Opaque). Even then I still listen to Garlands way more, it’s just a smaller gap. What an amazing debut album.
