Started watching “City Hunter” on Netflix… fun
Bummed that Acolyte is over for the year.
Yeah… and I was hoping for a more “boombastic” ending.
But it does put Luke’s kyber crystal theory to the test… and I like that they are paying attention!
This one is more slow burn and deep lore than most. It started out slow and kind of a stereotypical mystery/detective story but I really love the morphing in to being Rashomon.
It’s also a take on Star Wars, the Jedi, and the Sith that has long existed in the games (going back to KotOR) but really irritates the fanboys that want the Jedi to be paladinesque action heroes.
Paladins will always be paladins. Pure breeding always causes dissent and issues along the line. *looks at Darth Vader mask and pop"
One thing that Filoni did very well, and The Acolyte continues, is showing how the Jedi always get so wound up in contorting the truth to meet their ethics and world view, while the Sith (despite all the currently seen ones being Darksiders) are pragmatists that see the world like it is, and instead end up being more honest with both themselves and others.
A great example is how Maul just lays it all out and tells it exactly like it is, 100% truthfully, to Ahsoka; she initially can’t internalize it, and then rejects it, but finally realizes it’s all true; but by then it’s too late. And when she tries to tell the Jedi, Mace Windu blows her off over a minor procedural issue that is basically box-checking, losing the chance to literally save the galaxy because of his own navel-gazing.
This scene is awesome:
It’s like so close. She almost gets it, but just can’t hear the truth. And by the time she does, and tries to warn the Jedi, it’s too late.
Anyway, The Acolyte continues this. Sol and the other Jedi are so wrapped up in contorting the truth to meet their ethos; Qimir just tells the literal truth like it is.
This is all common in the games. The best example is probably Kreia in KotOR 2. Everything she says to you is completely true.
Reminds me of Yoko Kanno’s soundtrack for Cowboy Bebop
I love how much she gets in to her own compositions. She might be my favorite overall musician just for her adorable weird charisma
In the end it was “ok”.
- I don’t like these short mini episode things. Make it an hour or wait til you have enough content for a real season.
- Of all the Star Wars stuff this felt the least “Star Warsy” of them all, straying from what makes it feel right.
- The last two episodes were the whole season, the rest was a lot of filler.
I have not seen any animated stuff or games so maybe some of this is lost on me, but it should stand without those things IMO
Movie 43 - how did I miss this. Outrageous fun.
And now I’m rewatching Big Bang Theory - so dang funny.
So the tl;dr is there’s a whole lot more going on than the Star Warsy space opera stuff, which is at best a superficial facade. And Acolyte (along with Andor, Clone Wars, the games, etc etc) get in to the dark undercurrents, which it turns out are much more interesting. The Republic is not a space utopia (at all) and the Jedi are not the white knight heroes they superficially seem to be (and nor are the Sith the 1-dimensional villains they seem to be).
The thing is, that superficial facade is why a lot of fans fell in love with Star Wars, and they are incredibly butthurt by things like The Acolyte.
Disagree that the middle episodes were filler. They were a necessary transition from one POV to another to complete the Rashomon Effect.
One of my fav shots from all of House of the Dragon from last night.
So badass.
This show is just so damn good.
I get it - my brain can’t handle that level of depth though - lol.
Question - did Lucas envision all of those undercurrents and was he / is he that deep or did all of that come later or from others building on his spacey opera stuff?
Just finished the current season of “The Boys”. In general it’s not a great as the previous seasons, but there are some very very genius scenes in it!
Feels like a documentary sometimes…
Agree but still a great show, as was Generation V.
Yep - also liked that very much! We DO have stuff in common
Lucas is still involved helping steer the boat
On a very late night I decided to order up the new Furiosa film. When I first saw the previews I thought it was going to be kind of a tacky film that would do Mad Max an injustice. I am happy to say that I was totally wrong. I loved the film and I think it was done very well!
I liked it, gratuitous violence is a must! Graphic Audio has an excellent audio version of the boys also!
I don’t know about the “gratious” violence. But the over the top, bizarre & slapstick-like violence I liked.
A good example is set in the beginning of the first season, you know, Hughies girlfriend. I did not know what to expect and then: WHAM!
I had to review that to see if that really happened. It was a great beginning and set the tone of the whole series.
It was kind of unexpected, it reminded me a of the beginning of the (otherwise terrible) movie Ghost Ship.
In general I think that movies and series could do with less violence. That’s what I like about UK series - most of them are about stories, humour and characters, less about resolving things with violence and the general idea of revenge.
A notable exception is “Gangs of London” - violent and a must see!
