Whatcha Watchin'? The TV Thread

I know some of you follow it. I dislike more SW stuff than I like but still… damn what is happening with this franchise?

This sucks hard. That was the second best SW series in a long time IMO.

The incel fans really hated it because women. It did have one totally cringey episode. The showrunner was definitely not a fit. All that said, the overall take was really good and the story it was telling was more interestng than a lot of recent stuff…

Ya that stinks. It was good.
They are spreading too thin and now it’s showing.

I think they’re letting the small but vocal neckbeard community dictate what direction they’re going. Critically acclaimed, top 3 in streaming every week they released an episode but they cancelled it because some folks have a problem with the fact that someone with different reproductive parts is the protagonist. Beyond that, SW is just hard to be a fan of anymore. Their fans hate every single thing that comes out.

I have a sneaky suspicion that people are getting really really tired of stupid people.

Sad they keep making them in droves

I am still miffed that Netflix cancelled “1899” after one season. On the surface it looked like a cool, eerie Titanic-type turn-of-the-century steamship drama, but there was so much more going on - layers and layers of “supernatural” stuff being revealed. It ended with a truly epic cliffhanger… and that was that, since it never got re-newed. WTAF???

Anyway, it’s a pity, but production costs were sky-high, apparently, and yada yada… There might be many reasons to cancel a show. At the end of the day, though, people feel “cheated” and having wasted their time investing into something that went nowhere…

I’m still annoyed they cancelled “the Mist” tv show. It had a lot of promise and it was going in the right direction with character building and the setting was good. Maybe we should make a “I’m pissed they cancelled: …” thread.

I was sad that one was cancelled! Have you seen Dark? I thought 1899 might be going somewhere like Dark.

Oh, yes - same writers!

I liked the first two seasons - messed very nicely with my brain. Then it got a little weird and long-winded, but they finally managed to tie it up in a satisfactory manner.

Well, the recent stuff wasn’t that good. I didn’t like the Acolyte, I just don’t like giving negative reviews so I never posted.

Imo, it’s been going on since The Phantom Menace came out.

Like everything else over time, turns out they aren’t making the $ they used to on all streaming platforms. The whole digitalization of media has taken profits out of the equation (I don’t pretend to know how or why or what, just what I read).

Also reading all the jughead network execs from broadcast and cable are migrating over to streaming and adding the same terrible decision making that ruined those platforms content. A lot of creators are saying that no one will take a chance on things anymore. David Lynch was pitching a new show (most likely the last thing he’ll ever do and was rejected by Netflix.

You’re shitting me. That’s like McDonalds not hiring Gordon Ramsay.

The franchise really desperately needs to tell the story from the side of the Sith. The very best games do and they are incredible and nuanced.

The problem is there’s a segment of the fanbase that can’t see anything beyond black and white, paladinesque heroes versus the bad guys, and really just want to see Batman In Space, but hate being forced to realize and examine that in fact Batman really is kind of a sociopath.

They have, but I’ll take a step back first.

The biggest mistake Disney made is to wipe out the canon. There were a lot of books and stories that fleshed out the universe, and where Luke wasn’t a cardboard hero; and two of the better series were the Thrawn trilogy, where Thrawn and Mara Jade told their stories from the other side, and the Darth Maul stories. They killed off Maul too fast in the movies, he was a nuanced character.

I would think there are a lot of fans like me who don’t like the cliched stories they are putting on screen and much preferred the rich universe in the books.

Also KOTOR and SWTOR, both games, have like you said far better stories than the current shows. Make the next series about Revan, people would lap it up.

Exactly. KotOR (and especially KotOR 2 is you have the full version), and SWTOR are awesome examples. Just vastly better than anything other than maybe Clone Wars.

And yes, wiping out the EU was a mistake.

Tim Burton made Batman a sociopath, one of gods great gifts to stories.

As far as paladinesque heroes, turn the original trilogy around and think of Vader as the protagonist. He appears in the first few frames. He has the character arch, he goes through growth, and changes in the end. The whole plots of the three movies revolve around him. Luke doesn’t appear until 17 minutes in, and the protagonist is generally the first person you see. The others are just window dressing. It’s a different story than most realize.

I love the agent story in SWTOR, where you can go double agent, and the droid planet on KotOR2

Try Light Side Sith Warrior. It’s crazy good and a great reflection on the Jedi.

You actually have to
