Whatcha Watchin'? The TV Thread

Yesterday my girlfriend went to a “Rocky Horror Picture Show” event, completely dressed up.
I took the opportunity to watch some more “Bosch”.
When she came back, drunk and covered with glitter, she asked me, what you’re watching?
Me: “Bosch”!
She: “Hieronymus Bosch? The guy that painted how somebody puts flowers in the butt of somebody else?”
Me: “WTF?”
She: “Google it!”
Of course I know Hieronymus Bosch, he was Dutch after all, and I know his bizarre/fascinating paintings. But that I didn’t know.

So, googled it, and yes:

(The article has a very high res version of the painting, like 39,137 * 22,279 pixels.

Can you spot it? Take your time … there is much to discover!

There is even a song, " Hieronymus Bosch Butt Music"

It’s based on another motiv of that painting, with an actual score … painted on somebody’s … butt (of course):

It’s legit, as Thomann wrote a blog article about it:

I am proud to be Dutch!

Now google “Alain Jourgensen Flying Dutchman”

I had no idea he got it from Bosch!

We really have more cultural impact than is widely known.
I knew about the Dutch Rudder, but the Flying Dutchman (in this context) is new to me!

Al Jourgensen IS a cool guy!!! Maybe he has Dutch roots?

The Dutch Rudder:

I’m just impressed with Al that he managed to charge Metallica that way and force them to retreat

Maybe Al is kind of a human DAF … and is backwards as fast as forwards? But I would also flee, if somebody would approach me like that

Remember the DAF reverse races - I’ll post it again:

After the events of last week, we are putting together a list of things to be proud of, so we can enforce European identity and free ourselves from old alliances.

We have

  • Hieronymus Bosch & Butts
  • The Flying Dutchman
  • DAF

That’s already quite impressive for such a small country!

I would flee this maneuver as well. Al is wiry too, I bet he’s surprisingly fast in reverse.

He was also vague on what kind of flowers they were, but to be authentic I hope he went with tulips.

I was a Blackhawks fan for decades when the only way they could get close to the Cup was to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame during the one month/year when the real Cup is on display.

Then I moved to Scottsdale and gradually became a Coyotes fan and season ticket holder. The closest they got to the Cup was the one year they made the playoffs and then lost to Detroit in Game 7 0-4 at home in the conference finals when Ilya Bryzgalov’s mind was elsewhere. And then the morons who own the Flyers gave him a one-year $6.9 million contract. He earned none of it, left the NHL, went to St. Petersburg in the KHL and promptly got relegated to a skybox during the playoffs. Never played again as far as I could tell.

Best hockey memory: Late '90s. Blackhawks vs. Red Wings at the United Center. Jeremy Roenick’s return after many months out injured. The place was packed, twice the number of fans who normally showed up. On his first shift, he was skating full speed down the far boards, took a 90° turn and crushed a Red Wing who did a somersault and a half into the Detroit bench. Roenick skated directly to the penalty box. He looked into the camera broadcasting to the giant scoreboard and mouthed “I’m baaaack!” The crowd went berserk! We lost, but no one cared.

Good thing I moved to France when I did. The 'Yotes are no more. The Utah Hockey Club? Whatever. I hear that the players are happy there, so that’s good.

Yeah I was a fan by proxy because of the Winter Hawks. What I have come to realize is that the Winter Hawks deserve a better NHL sponsor

See this is why I love hockey

I’m so bummed my school didn’t have water polo. I would have been so good at that.

For those not very familiar with water polo a common back of the shirt saying was “water polo: travel to interesting places, meet new people, and drown them”

Close @howard I’m Welsh so I grew up playing Rugby.

So the superior version played on grass, usually in the rain with the occasional bit of violence.

I think you jinxed yourself. Now, you’ll never win one.

That’s totally awesome though. I got to stand next to it a few years ago right after the Avs won it. I went downtown for the whole hullabaloo and shenanigans when they brought it here right after the finals.

Neil’s drum solo Fire on Ice for Hockey Night in Canada was legendary!

One more. Neil rehearsing the solo. I love his headband with the Original 6 logos and drum kit with all the team logos! And there’s my team, front and center on the big floor tom, the sadly departed Coyotes! Can you tell I’m a huge Rush fan? :sunglasses:

So, let’s settle this once and for all for us non-native speakers:

does his last name rhyme with heart, hurt, reared or something else altogether??

Reared. Ear. Clear. Geschmirtt.

I first saw him and Rush live right after Neil joined for the Fly By Night album and tour. New Year’s '74/'75. The B’ginnings club in a Chicago suburb. Stood in front of Geddy the entire night. Good times!!!
