What's the deal with effects and pedals? (Also: sound in general)

Because the setup you suggested eliminates the amp, if
I’m reading it right.

No,

Both your amp and the DAI get outputs from your pedals. The Caline has both a DI out and a 1/4" out.

Your amp still do what it is supposed to do : amplify the signal and transform it into air pressure, so thay you can hear it. but the DI (BDDI/BDI-21/CP-60) does the routing : one side (normal out) to the amp and another (the DI/XLR output) to the DAI (only for recording). it’s really meant to be used that way.

Also the amp setting won’t act anymore to shape the recorded tone, but only for the live tone. If you want to modify the recorded tone, you do it on the BDDI/BDI-21/CP-60.

Okay I didn’t realize the Caline had more than one “out”.

Yep. And in my experience this is still a win because when active, the BDDI clones sound better and add more color than Fender amps, which are mostly transparent. And when passive they add nothing but still work as DI’s.

Yep, that’s the whole point of a DI, to allow you to run out an XLR out while monitoring locally. Well, half the point anyway.

yeah and what’s funny is that it’s pretty easy to dial a Fender-tube-amp-tone with the BDDI, it sounds more Fender (in the traditionnal way) than the current Rumble range.

If money is not an issue, and you don’t want to have to worry about too many knobs, this is the one to get, @PamPurrs:

It’s like a DI for capital-A Audiophiles, the kind that buy things like this:

Hehe, gotta love audiophiles (remember to align your speaker cables to magnetic north!)

In all fairness, the REDDI is what studios use, and, for them, is probably worth the price.

lol wut a grounding that costs $836?

I think the Blackbody might be the ultimate dumb audiophile scam I have seen yet. A lump of metal for only $836 to set next to your stuff is a pretty solid display of contempt for your customer base. I hope they made bank
