Oh man…why does doing something with your life have to be so confusing? ![]()
Welcome to my world ![]()
If you want to make it easy: most advise you to take a FocusRite for that price.
I know many people that are really happy with that.
But: if the PreSonus ES2 is still discounted, take that!
@BozzerWolf has one. I have the better ES4, and I am very very happy.
Why?
- ASIO drivers are great. No latency, no issues. Even on my wild beast notebook.
- Audio quality is outstanding
- You can control EVERYTHING via PC or App. No need to fiddle the knobs. But you can, if you are into knobs

- I like the design
- You get the outstanding PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 DAW with it. It has stem seperation etc.
If you travel with it, use it outside, I still advise the Zoom AMS-24. But that’s a much simpler DAI … and the ES2 will make you feel like a pro … and it’s great for bedroom/sofa recodring (not what happens in the bedroom, but in case you play bass in the bedroom :-)).
i mean…
thats a whole other forum.
I dont play bass in my room. i’d get too distracted. or want to take a nap lol. Bad enough the couch in my office keeps giving me funny looks and winking at me lol
Do yourself a favour, just buy a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Plug it in and it works, no messin’. I record covers on my iPhone (GarageBand). The Scarlett Solo plugs in, takes power from the iPhone and, as I say, works. The Solo is my ‘travel’ solution - I travel for work a reasonable amount and want to play bass / record covers while away. So the Solo comes with me.
I also have a built in interface in my multi effects pedal which I use at home. It also just works.
All this talk above about drivers etc. is beyond me. Plug it in and play simplicity, is what I’m looking for!
Fair. I just bought the presonus es2 this morning though. But who knows. Might end up going down the interface rabbit hole ![]()
The ES2 will be fine.
Sick. so it comes with studio one but i hear that’s just “ok”. I hear great things about Reaper though. thoughts?
Studio One is a great DAW.
I’m going to try them both and probably some others so we’ll see. interface gets here tomorrow morning between 7-11am
Studio One is a very good DAW, so is Reaper.
I have no idea how to do any of this so…praying for the best

@howard is our expert - you can ask any question, no matter how “stupid” it is. I know ![]()
I started also from 0 with Studio. It’s easy enough for making covers, and complex enough to mix your own hit (later on).
And the included stem seperation will be your friend - as soon as you understand the benefits of muting a bass track on your background song…
ES2 = GREAT CHOICE!
lmao I am not the only DAW enjoyer here ![]()
Specs from a different forum suggested the UA Volts had some of the better headphone preamps. That’s what I got. It looks good…
Apogee, MOTU, and Topping were the other, better contenders (and also were +$). I doubt I’ll ever know the difference, but that was most important to me. The Apogee Boom and Motu M2 seemed to stand out overall. Most brands on this list have their own strengths and no real knocks against.
Yep that’s a good choice too. Really for bass any of them will be fine.
So … how is life with the ES2 and Studio One?
Uh. well, I havent found any problems with the ES2 since i downloaded the destruction manual.
The only thing with that is I tried to register it and it says its already registered and to contact previous owner to have them unregister it. I signed into presonus using three different emails, including the one I used for the amazon purchase, and couldn’t register it on any of them. Idk what to do about that other than let it be and make my next purchase directly from the source instead of amazon.
Likewise, S1 wont change from windows audio to the ES2
In short. Kind of feeling ripped off but Reaper saved the day and it’s not a total waste of money. Now I just have to play around and figure out how to use it properly
actually, with the es2 i feel there is a little bit of latency. either that or my timing is actually off. Could be either one lol
Was this a new ES2 or B.stock. Contact Amazon about that (providing you got it there), otherwise PreSonus. They respond within 24 houtrs.
That’s strange. What is “S1”? Did you install all drivers?
There should be no latency. What are your ASIO settings?
Try 44100 Hz (44,1KHz) and 512 samples…
S1 is studio one. Was just being lazy
. I thought I was buying new. Have to check that out now. I’ll have to check settings too. Still working all this out. Never done anything like this before
