Some may be following my conversion project from P/J to humbucker.
I currently have three basses with a DiMarzio DP126, EMG GZR and an active EMG P/J.
One of these pickup sets has to go!
I would like to keep the active EMGs as I love active PUs!
So far I have found the DP126 (after some effort to get it right) better than the EMG GZR.
But suddenly, I also think the EMG GZR is also really great, since I’ve put them on my fretless.
I’m really astounded what kind of tone comes out of those pickups now. Is it because of the flats? Don’t know, but I can’t put the fretless down right now!
On the other hand, a soon as I play the DP126, I think it’s cool!
Now I can’t decide, so I ask you: which ones should I sell? Maybe it’s also a matter of: which ones are easy to sell, cause they’re popular?
Yeah - tend to agree!
I’m kind of reluctant though, but my guess is that the new found fondness of the EMG GZR is really cause of the magic of flatwounds!? Cannot be the fretless neck. Everything else is 100% the same…
by the way: there seems to be a difference is countries, when I compare taste and mentality of - for example - USA (BassBuzz) and Germany (bassic.de).
@howard and I touched on this the other day - in Japan, J/J setups are super popular. I swear half or more of the basses are Jazz variants. Countries do have specific tastes and common wisdom can differ.
But in this instance I think the Geezers have a higher profile. DP126 is more a bass-o-phile kind of thing. In my estimation.
I am just selling quite a lot of high-end HIFI equipment and had to withdraw a listing twice. The disappointment of potential buyers was very high and I got some frustrated emails about that.
It did not feel right with me, as it’s important for me to be known as a fair and reliable seller.
I would need to withdraw the other PU set , after having sold one of them.
Oooorrrrrr: I install double Humbuckers in the other one too … hmmmm
You, my friend, are the next candidate for my girlfriend to have your @ss kicked
You cannot imagine the amount of hoops I had to jump to explain the sudden appearance of a new bass (with a colour that cannot be ignored)…
I need to be the best boy friend ever for the remaining year. It’s hard!
I did exactly this with my A/V receiver. But she is a clever one and knows all my tricks. It took her 3 days. I saw her looking at the general direction of the receiver on day one. Some more on day 2. Slight irritation, her brain ticking.
And on day 3 she got it.
On day 2 I started to do nice and charming stuff, as I knew what would happen.
I survived, she found my fears endearing (= best thing that can happen).
But now she has developed super human powers and I need to find new ways to misbehave ^^
For women it’s nothing, but being the “best boyfriend ever” all the time feels like a million years, even for a day. Especially if she defines the terms for “best boyfriend” and is very creative to invent new criteria - I can’t keep up!
I really don’t get why women don’t have the power in this world, as they are so cunning and obviously much more persuasive than men in the end.
And all that suffering for a light-barf coloured bass - life’s hard!
Don’t sell any of them. Get another bass to put them in.
Edit…
didn’t read all the way through, I still stand with my original statement, but would add…“Get another bass that’s the same color as your old one”, when it shows up say…“ahhh, back from the repair shop”
Edit…
Just read the rest on this matter. Apparently this has already been mentioned.
Makes me wonder…How many of us have basses the same color for this reason?
You have two pickups you love and are agonizing over which to sell. So much so that you made a whole topic for it.
Your decision is to sell them both, because fuck these great things you love, it’s a better idea to hack the shit out of your instruments some more and try these unknown quantity pickups you have never used before and may or may not like.
Is that about right? I mean I know this is what you’re going to do, I just wanted to make sure I had the sequence of events straight
