Women on Bass

Just think of the voice as another instrument. I already do for most genres I like anyway

Surely I’m not the only one who’s fallen head over heels for Victoria De Angelis, bassist for Eurovision 2021 winner Måneskin?

(Seeing her play that Danelectro Longhorn reminded me that I’ve always wanted a Danelectro myself.)

For Joe Cocker, Carol Kaye played on “Feelin’ Alright.” I’m not sure about “With a Little Help from My Friends,” though.

On “La Bamba,” she hadn’t started bass in sessions yet, but played guitar on it.

She’s great - this is how I want to play, having so much fun dancing around my kitchen.

She’s very good. Interesting tone she’s getting, I wonder what effect she’s using to get that.

Indeed Sarah CAN play bass.
And she has a ton of fun doing it.
I am looking forward to when i can have that fun and actually still play the song.

@PamPurrs could be a touch of envelope filter, often used in funk type tunes.

This might be the most fun one can have in black Adidas socks.

I had an envelope pedal briefly that I had purchased from Toby @t_dub, but it didn’t do anything for me, so I resold it on Reverb. Maybe I should have put more time into figuring it out.
I think there’s an envelope effect in my Zoom B3n. If there is, I may experiment with it.
Yes she definitely looks like she’s having fun!

They are a bit tricky and fussy.
They also react based on how hard or soft you play, so if you are plucking softly all through, you may scratch your head wondering what all the fuss is about. Some YouTube video research might help you with the basics. For my MXR envelope I found a video demo’ing it and I liked the tone and copied the settings and there it stays for now.

Yeah, Tina Waymouth certainly uses a touch of Envelope filter on her tone, at least she did in that Stop Making Sense video / concert
It can be subtle, or very overpowering, but with just a touch, and a touch of sub octave, you can get a really fat, sick tone.

I got that one after watching @JoshFossgreen 's peddle board video on his personal YT channel.

That video also cost me a lot of $$$$.
