Mohini Dey being amazing is worth a watch
I love that this thread exists. I also love that there are so many phenomenal women bass players, many of whom I don’t know of before. Rock on.
Has anyone mentioned The Donnas? I don’t know the bass player’s name, but I love The Donnas. ![]()
Here’s one of their songs I’ve been working on.
I’ve been on a Mars Volta kick lately, so Eva Gardner is worth mentioning again. Wow, what an insanely good bassist.
This is the first I’ve heard of them. Thanks for sharing. I created an Amazon Music playlist of the 7 studio albums. They may be gone, but not forgotten. The bassist’s name is Maya Ford. (The Donnas - Wikipedia)
Thanks! Yeah, I watched the video you linked last night. Kind of a sad story what they’ve gone through. I have to wonder how many of the hardships they endured in their musical career was because they were women. ![]()
I want to grow up to be like her.
The way she interacted with the fingerboard is just next level.
Fami.
This would be fun to try
You’ve got everything you need ![]()
I’m not a fan of women on bass.
I have no problem with women who play bass - and there are lots that I like, but they shouldn’t be on the bass. The bass should be on them.
I have the pawn shop in drop D and may leave it there. Going to take a while to get down
absolutely mind blowing. do i understand why people don’t like her, yes. it is a lot. but you sure do have to respect her ability. i mean sharon is a monster player and is just looking at her like wtf am i watching here.
Love Tina W!!! I listened to a really great interview with them both a while ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhUq52YmeLA
The first person who came to mind for me is Laura Lee Ochoa from Khruangbin. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWLJeqLPfSU
I really like their music and I think Laura Lee’s bass is so chilled and funky. I have to try covering some of her bass lines one of these days.

I’ e been in that venue, @ebxx and I checked it out last year. It’s basically Fender’s version of an Apple store.
I think this video just made me a fan. I love how she lets the sustain ring out while she’s singing. It made me gasp but then I just admired that space. I think her voice being lower just fits right in there nicely.
Plus I LOVE seeing that guitarist in the corner
bet that dood doesn’t have the stones to turn up his amp!
I also did that J bucker bass. I wish they would have used panhead screws on the pick guard so they wouldn’t dimple like that. Either that or use a thicker piece of metal.
Kinda makes me want to do an anodized aluminum pick guard.
