Women on Bass

I think this video just made me a fan. I love how she lets the sustain ring out while she’s singing. It made me gasp but then I just admired that space. I think her voice being lower just fits right in there nicely.

Plus I LOVE seeing that guitarist in the corner  bet that dood doesn’t have the stones to turn up his amp!

I also did that J bucker bass. I wish they would have used panhead screws on the pick guard so they wouldn’t dimple like that. Either that or use a thicker piece of metal.

Kinda makes me want to do an anodized aluminum pick guard.

Sunflower Bean is also a good example of a singing bassist.

Fami showing the F-Chopper school of bass off

Love this post. It was after discovering all the Japanese female bands (band-maid, hanabie, nemophilia) and then The warning that I picked up the bass.

Only woman I’ve not seen in the list is Este Haim and her incredible bass face

That is so cool! This is from the video description (for those who don’t read the descriptions). It’s also very cool.

Recorded live at the Madison Square Garden, New York on January 9, 1997 for David Bowie’s 50th birthday benefit concert.

The audio from this video comes from a 1997 bootleg CD originated from a soundboard digital stereo source. The quality is outstanding, the mix is not brickwalled for broadcast. The video comes, allegedly, from HBO’s promo VHS tapes - unfortunately, the quality is not so good. This concert was only officially released by HBO’s pay-per-view service on March 8, 1997.

"(…) like ‘Under Pressure.’ I said to him, ‘There’s no way I’m going to be able to sing and play that — are you kidding?’ He was like, ‘I’ll give you two weeks.’ And then he walked out of the room, so I had to figure it out.

This was early on during the Nine Inch Nails tour. We got better at it throughout the years. It started with him asking if I’d seen him do it with Annie Lennox for the Freddie Mercury tribute. I said, ‘Yeah, of course. Everyone saw that.’ He said, ‘I have a tape of that. Have a listen and maybe we can do our own version.’ (…)

What’s emotional for me these days is looking back at that time now. I’ve just grown so much because of him. I owe him so much as a musician. It all changed my life tremendously."

Thanks for posting the description, @TheMaartian.

I’ve seen interviews with Gail AnnDorsey, she is an incredible musician, but incredibly humble with it. You see this in the quote above. Not only is she a fantastic bassist, she’s also a damn fine singer! Oh, to have a fraction of a percent of her talent!
