Hey everyone…I’m trying to doll up my office/music area for our next hangout in December & wanted to know your favorite bassists. I have posters coming of Tony Lewis (The Outfield), Dusty Hill and Geddy Lee, and I’ve printed pictures of several others…they’ll be going on my closet doors, which is a large area.
Lots of replies in this other thread.
Without a doubt number one is Nathan East. Lee Sklar, Pino, Abe Aboriel, Tony Jackson, Jaco, Tony Levin Joe dart, Tesuo Sakurai.
Wow too many to list I have way to many master I worship, lol.
Yes, you should migrate your post over to the existing thread and delete this one so no one else continues here.
Just discovered Dr. Funk…get ready to binge watch his YouTube videos
Criminally underrated bassist, who is definitely in my personal all time top five, is MCA (RIP) aka Adam Yauch.
I mean, are you hearing this?
RIP MCA.
(Edit: I found the main thread for this after I wrote this post - apologies.)
Bobby Sheehan (not the hockey player and not Billy) was the bassist for Blues Traveler until he passed away in 1999 at the age of 31.
It amazes me how little information there is out there about him, but he was one of the bassists that got me paying closer attention to bass lines in general and ultimately lead me to want to play.
Most might know “Hook” and “Runaround,” which each have excellent bass lines.
Here’s a small sample of some of my other favorites:
“Onslaught” - Fast intro groove into a driving verse. And then the chorus kicks in and … whew.
“But Anyway” - Featured in the movie “Kingpin.” Super busy bass line and great solo (the movie version didn’t feature the solo):
“Regarding Steven” - A more mellow tune with a dark backstory, but Sheehan’s playing is subtly busy and beautiful:
“100 Years” - Another mellow song. He sets the main groove right at 0:00, but his lines during the pre-chorus and sax solo are especially active.
@howard Looks like someone got a (shitty tbh) paint job. I really need to replace my knobs, I like the 734 ones so much more.
I’m guessing it didn’t start that bad and he’s just thrashed the crap out of it already ![]()
