Not necessarily music-related, but definitely related to the people on this forum

I’ve always lived a life most people never understood. :man_shrugging:

Not everyone grows up with that luxury. Women in particular grow up being expected to conform to an endless, confusing, impossibly contradictory set of unwritten rules that we are just expected to know and adhere to while dancing backwards in high heels and a big smile on our faces.

It’s exhausting. F*ck that.

Understood, from having had many relationships with women.

That said, I’ve known quite a few women who did, indeed, say fuck that, and lived their lives by that credo. Not a lot, but some.

That’s still in full swing here too. And of course the people most vicious to the women that won’t do it are the other women. Tall poppy syndrome seems sadly fundamental to human nature.

I’m glad to hear this get said. I’ve always thought it was quite unfair. Women are expected to always look good, always be ready for anything, never pass gas in public and eat enough for a small child on a diet.
Meanwhile, as men-if we brush our teeth, shower daily, comb what hair we have and wear (sorta) matching clothes we’ve hit the mark.

I won’t go into gender inequality, because I’m not dumb enough to think i have answers. I will say that you are absolutely right.

@autumnsdad1990 I really appreciate your response! You said the second part that I left out:

I got a good laugh outta that - you’re not wrong. I wish I had answers, but I do think that after thousands of years of negative conditioning, generally speaking (so don’t y’all come at me with “Well, I don’t think that way…”) men are taught that women are not people.

So first step: somehow get all the men on this planet to see women as fully human.

Ugh internalized misogyny is so insidious. It’s like cancer - the body turning against itself.

As a teenager, I was fortunate to see and understand a particular scene from the movie Heathers. You know the part where Heather and Veronica go to the college party? Heather pressured Veronica to go because she wanted to feel cool. When they are there, Veronica tells the guy hitting on her (if you can call it that - he treats her like a party favor) to f off. Heather gives in to what is basically sexual coercion - she does it because she thinks she’s suppose to, not 'cause she is enthusiastic. Afterwards, Heather is rinsing her mouth out in the bathroom, and spits water at her image in the mirror. She actually hates what she has become, but is stuck because of “expectations.”

Men are taught that they are superior to Woman. Which is so wrong. Plus it taken So many years of conditioning that we (men) aren’t allowed to show emotions or feeling or cry. I believe that its all people equal. Woman are taught if they aren’t tough they wont survive and don’t show emotions.
My belief is that if we are kind to everyone we are good people plus it not a race to see who is the best we are all equal.
I hope I haven’t missed the mark with what I am trying to say and haven’t upset anyone.
