I’m surprised no one has said that their favorite is plain cheese pizza. I know quite a few people that only fancy cheese!
Big old NYC style cheese slice is fantastic!
Yeah, man! Fond memories of finding an all-night pizza joint at 3am with a guy slinging pizza dough in the window.
I’ve owned a couple Oonis and wasn’t super happy with them. I tried out Gozney ovens and they are built so much better. Their heat retention is amazing and I’ve pulled many a tasty pizza from those. Some even run small pizza business with a handful of the Roccbox ovens.
Whenever I try a new place - the plain cheese is the go-to. It’s the best way to measure the quality of a new spot. However, my making pizza to buying pizza ratio is like 95%-5%.
Franks Hot Sauce. I put that s**t on EVERYTHING
I dont actually, but on 'zza I use pepperoncini piccanti, that is chopped chilis in oil.
EDIT: as far as toppings go, it’s either deep dish Caponeville style or
Cheese
Tomato sauce
Kebab meat
Green peppers
Hot peppers (raw, for a pref)
Mushrooms
Onions
Green olives
I was in the Philippines for a little while when I was six. I ate a pizza with mangos on it. I did not like it, but at the time I didn’t like mangos at all. Now I love mangos, but haven’t tried them on pizza since.
I lived in Brazil for a while and their pizza was interesting with Brazilian sausages and hams. But if I ever find myself in Brazil again I’ll probably pass on the pizza as I find everyday Brazilian food to be much better.
Pizza that is surprisingly good is the take and bake stuffed crust pizza from Walmart. Some of the best pizza for the money. Although I do not have a very sophisticated pallet and I think almost anything tastes good.
My biggest issue is they run too damn hot (1100 F plus) and the vent control is, well, not so much. So if your crust and sauce aren’t super thin, your middle is goo when the crust is charred.
And then the mess.
I worked at Dominos when they were marching across the US 30 minutes or less at a time.
It was horrible for sure but free food is helpful when your closing and heading out drinking in high school.
That was the start of this Hawaiian pizza thing, which I do like but wouldn’t ever order now.
I’m a traditionalist, I love good sausage, mushroom, onion.
Also love pepperoni, garlic, broccoli rabe and hot pepper.
Well, did, before this no gluten/dairy/egg/soy thing.
Sigh.
Perhaps again one day.
Yeah I worked at a pizza chain my freshman year of college. This one was decent, basically one of the local chains making west coast style pizzas similar to Round Table (for you midwest types, think a version of Godfathers with more fresh ingredients and generally better.) I actually loved it, did everything from making the dough in the back, through cooking pizzas, up to short order line cook (for sandwiches and other light entrees). Fun and decent free food for sure. Made lots of experimental pizzas to find “the best”, which is how I discovered Jalapeno, Pineapple and fresh Tomato wheels.
I think by the time I got out of HS and college I had worked at most food industry jobs except head chef or manager. Definitely everything from dishwasher through waiting tables. I think my favorite was probably barback. Working in bars is super fun, and barbacks basically have no real responsibility other than to keep the alcohol locked and loaded. Everything beyond that was extra stuff you did for tips. Tips were amazing because if you played your cards right you’d be helping out all the waiters and waitresses, plus of course all the bartenders, who each tip you out 15%. So, often I would end up with more tips than the bartenders. And of course, great way to meet cute waitresses. “Accidentally” leave a bottle in the kitchen and get cooked all the free food you want. Basically a perfect college job.
Man, that’s something to aspire to, assuming there’s a Wayback Machine available that conveniently makes one correspondingly younger, of course.
I am not reliving the 70s. 80s okay
I’ll take the 70s. Lots of Dead concerts, Muddy Waters and his boys at Antone’s, all the Armadillo World Headquarters shows, old Austin with cheap rent, cheap food and cheap lids.
'70s I was in grade school, so I’m with Wombat there.
70’s were the best decade EVER.
Check out the partial roster of acts that played the Armadillo, as we called it for short.
Every single night of the week for 10 glorious years the Armadillo rang loud and very proud. I honestly can’t possibly recall how many world-class, ground-breaking shows I saw there.
Yes, ma’am!
IMHO:
- my usual preference is Hawaiian pizza.
- best pizza EVER was a lobster tail pizza from the now defunct Grizzly Bear Pizza
- best all around pizzarea: The Flying Pie chain in Boise, Idaho
- LITTLE KNOWN FACT: the p-bass stands for the Pizza Bass
I would allow a lobster pizza. Just because I love lobster and I love pizza.
