I have bought a couple from the guys there as well Russ @russki98,
Mel has done the set ups on all my basses over the years.
cheers Brian
I love this headstock ! also I love the “lollipop” tuning pegs
Yeah, I left that part out on purpose, never hurts to have two awesome basses.
me too, but thats becasue I have the FRX Araya already, plus, and most important, I want the F-4E (the stained wood neck thru version) because it matches so nicely with my B-4E. and I love my B-4E, so to have an F-4E next to it would be awesome.
But yeah, great price for an Edwards. I probably couldn’t re-sell it here easily because many here in the states never even heard of Edwards, and would probably think it a knock off / copy of the LTD
I agree with you on that one. I love the reverse feel to it, the 1+3
Like a mashed up Rickenbacker / Stingray turned around
I saw a Silverstone LB11 go for sale locally on Offer Up today. It was just the P bass, without the Jazz bass pick ups, which I am now guessing was a total mod job. The Silverstone was same age, good shape, but going appropriately for $100. It looked almost identical except the burst colors were a little different, but the same style to the burst, which, sue me, but I like better then most standard bursts (which I am not really a fan of anyway, kind of why I like that one being disproportional and running under the pick
guard, but I had to smile a little when I saw Silvertone LB-11 in the title of the ad.
Yes! Me, too. And also the fact that they are one on top and three below! And the shape…
I love almost any headstock that is creative and does not follow the traditional Fender shape. Especially if compact and using non-clover keys. This one is especially cool though.
Currently debating on a Squier Jazz, Fender MIM Jazz, or a Yamaha TRBX 604 as my next bass.
Unless you really want a J-bass, you will love it, more than a J - it’s way more versatile
I can make it sound like a J if I want to. At the same time, I cannot make a J sound like it for many of its capable tones.
Plus, 3.8kg. And looks stellar.
Get on is @howard, then you can cover those two songs you posted earlier
I have a couple of basses on my (half serious) wishlist, and have been keeping an eye on when they are estimated to be back in stock. Recently one of them (made in Mexico) went from “2-5 days” to “8-10 weeks”, another (made in Indonesia) from “4-5 weeks” to “7-9 weeks”. So annoying… Now I’ll have to wait even longer to go broke. Either I’m unlucky with my wishlist, or COVID is affecting the supply chain or something.

Best offer from the seller is $515.
Another seller has a 504 for $499 with a better color, case, and will do a setup before they ship the bass.

Decisions, decisions. xD
Hard to go wrong here
sounds like something @howard can help you with, he is very familiar with both models. maybe he can help decide which is better at which price.
Personally, I have never had a chance to play or even hold either.
Only Yamaha I have had opportunity to play, thanks to Covid, is the RBX-170, and while the TRBX 504 and 604 are the top end of that line, the 170 is the very first entry level one. I liked the feel of the neck on that one, but didn’t like other things about the bass, that I am sure are worked out the higher up the line you climb. My biggest gripe about it was the split P pick up that slanted from the middle, down each way. if felt in the way of my fingers, I always hit it while plucking, but if i lowered it any more, the sound was not where it should have been. Any rounded off soapbar pick up in the neck position would have fixed that. Like the Ibanez Sr300’s and other TRBX models have.
Yeah, those pick ups on the 504 look great.
Color on it is spectacular also.
I agree with @Wombat-metal that it would be hard to go wrong.
If it were me (and i won’t be offended if you do the exact opposite just because it is opposite what I said I would do .
) I would get the 504 with the Case and the Pro set up.
To me the Pro Set up is not a huge deal, I am confident to do mine and am very happy with them, but kind of like a tune up with a car, at least somebody has gone over it (like a 27 point inspection) and worked out any kinks (hopefully). I would end up making adjustments to action and possibly the neck just to get it exactly how I like it, but it will be very close coming in having just been set up.
And the CASE. A nice hard case is nothing to shake a stick at. They have value, and are great travel protection, and it is not bad to store them long term in a case (but who is gonna do that, when you are playing it every day, right?). so the ones you are not playing much, they can have a nice place to rest.
A good case is easily $100 or more. You can get them used or at Pawn shops starting at $50 (from what I have seen), but some are pretty ratty adn beat up, when I see a nice, plush case in good shape, it is gonna be $80 min and up to $125 (again, from what I have seen in my local area)
So, sounds to me like the 504 has some value added into it, ofsetting the cost.
True, you can;t turn around and sell the set up thru an ad online (offer up / reverb, etc…) but you could turn around and sell the Case for $75 and up (assuming it is a HSC and not a gig bag. A gig bag is not a bad thing, it just doesn’t have the same monetary value as a HSC, and doesn’t offer the same level of protection.)
So yeah, I think I would take that Brick Burst (AWESOME COLOR) with the case and set up over the 604,
Unless @howard can make a strong case for the 604 over the 504, due to his experience with both instruments, where I have none. so I would listen to what he says, but it might be the same thing @Wombat-metal said too, were it is hard to go wrong with either.
The 504 and 604 are very similar. Neck, pickups, electronics, hardware and so on are all the same. The only difference is the body wood and finish. This has two effects - the 604 has a flame maple top and some of them are gorgeous (though as you note, it’s in the eye of the beholder.) And it’s also a bit lighter.
You can’t go wrong with either bass, both are top notch. I was actually saving to buy a 504 when my 604 popped up on the market. I would have been just as happy with the 504.
Ok that’s a lie, there isn’t a red 504. It’s a thing with me, all my guitars have been red. The other colors still look awesome though.
Easy, been crushing hard on the Danelectro Short horn bass. It will be mine soon enough
I was looking at that brick burst 504 on Sweetwater last night in bed. My wife looked up from her reading and asked what I was looking at on the iPad. “Oh… nothing” I said
Yeah, if that 604 had the Brick Burst color scheme, I would’ve already bought it. It looks okay in that mustard-color, but it’s just that; okay. The red and black paint scheme, I’ve seen that on Reverb; and I’ll give you that it’s sexy as hell.
I’m a bit of a weirdo when it comes to guitars. When I played six string, (and really I didn’t care that much as long as it played good), but I preferred a natural stain finish to a painted one.
I always sort of liked a more mellow, warm looking instrument.
