I’m considering the next 4 string to buy to be Sterling myself for about $350 but damn man I never thought they could look like yours! Was it custom made? Looks like it.
That would be well…The Best
Yes it was custom made from scratch.
Even though if electronics or sound are something I don’t like, I much rather change those on this bass, than some more regular bass, like for instance Sub.
Yeh, cuz no matter what you do to it, there still aint another one around

Just picked up this gem about 3 months ago. Best Bass I have ever played. Very very smooth and great sound. You can see I have the stickers on there to learn my notes.
Welcome aboard and great looking bass, @BrainSawMassacre . . .
(of course, I’m probably a bit biased
)
Cheers
Joe
You are just trying to make me Jealous aren’t you.
That sounds like such a cool bass, and the price, OMG, you have really SCORED BIG on this one.
Do you know what the neck width is at the nut?
Because this custom more closely resembles the EBMM Sterling bass over the classic Stingray (although they are hard to tell the difference if you quickly look them over and don’t know what you are looking for) I would guess it is a Sterling (jazz) neck 38mm (1.5") wide at the Nut, as opposed to the Stingray Neck (P or in-between P and J), as they tend to be a little different year to year, or at least they are listed different from website to website.
Stingray Neck is spec’ed at 42.86mm (1-11/16 or 1.6875" - P or very close to a P neck). I have also seen them listed at 41.25mm (1.625" closer to a P then J, but not quite to a P).
For me, the 38mm Sterling is most comfortable, it is on my Ray4 and EBMM Stingray SLO Special (EBMM calls Jazz necks Sterling necks on Sterlings, or SLO necks when on Stingrays in limited releases)
On my Sterling Ray34 it is 43mm (1.69") and I can play them just fine, I just prefer the 38mm (1.5") neck.
I have not played on a EBMM Stingray with a 1.625" neck, and don’t know if they actually exist. It is possible that they are listed incorrectly on some websites that sell them, or on Reverb from individual sellers, but I don’t know. IDK where the 1.625 measurement comes from, if anybody has actual information about this, and can verify there are Stingrays out there with this measurement, I would like to know about it.
Either way, that bass is awesome, I feel bad for the person selling it, especially at that low cost, possibly they need money due to the pandemic.
I do feel stoked for you tho, cuz it is just so cool. Something to keep for life IMO, even if it is not your go to bass, or even if you don’t like playing it much, it is still a pc of wall art, at least I would hang it on my wall proudly.
People display are WAY WAY WAY more costly than that bass, in fact, any. art that is not mass produced copies will cost more then that, and even copies go for more.
cool looking Jazz. I like the color.
Yes its Jazz bass width.
Im also wondering about why this person is selling it and for such cheap price. I asked luthier about cost when ordering it and it should be around 1700$. I also think pandemic is possibly the reason why.
Not trying to make anyone jelly, just wanna share the find.
And yeah cant wait to check it in person.
Its ok to show off your bass, thats what these threads are for.
Yeah, it could be something left behind after a divorce, or a death, and the person just doesn’t know what they have and look at 2nd hand sites, see a Ray4 for $300 and say, ok this should be about $300.
Not exactly that, but something like that.
If the person is willing to part with it for that price, more power to you.
Well I dont think thats the case because I could see guy has Bongo on profile too, and price is really high, so I guess he knows what he has… I guess…
When I think about it more, maybe he thinks that people are unlikely to give alot of money for nonbranded product.
Sounds on Par.
If it were me, I would just keep it, cuz with that kind of loss, it almost isn’t worth it, unless I absolutely needed the money, and even then, I think I would sell other things, but who knows.
My X-wife sold my Custom built Carvin guitar (now Keisel) that cost me $666 in 1991. She sold it for like $150 or something the first time I was in Rehab, back in 2009. It was beautiful, Neck thru, Koa wood double Active humbuckers, it was sick. Probably, in the condition it was in it might be valued near $2000, but probably be sold for $1200ish in this market.
I was pissed.
If it were a break up, or something somebody left it behind, and they looked up the prices online, this still fits into the IDK what the hell I have.
You won’t find a Bongo online for $300, although you can find look alike Stingrays for as low as $100 (non SBMM, like Harley Benton and Stag) and new for as low as $300, so maybe?
But you won’t know until you go get it, and may not even care why, you are just stoked to be able to afford it now.
Ow that really hit the spot. Custom guitars are never worth selling especially if you are the first owner. That guitar seemes like it would be great part of history.
The thing with ‘custom’ is that people like to customize them. There is value in that.
It is generally a non-transferable value for most ‘customized’ things.
That said…you have an amazing deal there and that custom job is clearly one that a lot of us see a lot of value in. Enjoy the unicorn!
Thank god she didn’t sell my surfboards.
She hated me at the time, but she knew where to draw the line, and did not sell my Surf or Snow boards.
Well @T_dub,
anticlimactic plot twist. All that hype for nothing . I understand now why that bass was being sold so cheap compared to other things guy sells. It’s neck is either not well made or is ruined by time excessive usage. Colors of the guitar are so washed out now that its unrecognizable in person vs those original pics, I’d never say it’s the same thing.
So I didn’t go through with buying it…
I was bummed…
Then wife sent me receipt of Sub Ray 4 TBS she ordered from Thomann as anniversary gift.
So I’m not bummed anymore.
