Any sexy new basses you've got your eye on?

Dang! Too good to be true.
That stinks @Growl, but the gift is even more amazing.
The day my wife buys me a bass may be the last on this earth because I will have a heart attack, hahahaha.
Re-congrats on the Sub!

Okay, I know sexy is in the eye of the beholder but I think my new Lakland 44-64 PJ is very sexy! Love the sound as well!

@BrainSawMassacre

That’s a Vintera 60’s jazz bass isn’t it? In Daphne blue?

Great choice, I love my Lakland. Never really hear any complaints about their basses.

I love it. The sound is so good. And its so easy to play. I did put flat wounds on it as soon as I got it. I wont play anything else now. lol

Haha it’s really nice, I have to agree. And especially the colour too! Fender do the p bass version which is even more audacious colour wise - sea foam green with gold pickguard!

But I still prefer the jazz one though

Man, how dare they use original photo’s to lure somebody in? Thats a crime worthy of a punishment.

Thats cool about the Ray4. TBS, the translucent Blue right? Thats the one I got, thats my go to bass, I love it to death.

One thing, tho, IDK if you been following some of my rant about pick ups on another forum or not. But that is the weak spot on the bass.
I highly advise swapping it out.
Good news, there are some pickups that are not that expensive to choose from.
Kent Armstrong would be my choice at $52 on Reverb
Wilkenson starting around $30 on Ebay, and Reverb
And now I saw one that I think is the brand that @terb always suggests.
ToneRider, I saw them on Reverb today, may have been between $50 and $70.
Of course, the Aguilar I have is awesome, but cost around $120.
Many others to choose from, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything that is, or can be wired in parallel, and is not the stock pick up.

You may want to just play around with the bass for a while, and get used to it and see if you like it and if it is a keeper first, that is fully understandable, just be forewarned, don’t put that treble pot anywhere near max boost, and even 50% is harsh. You can go Bass boost between 25% adn 50%, but you will most likelly distort on the E string below the 5th fret, so Open A string as well.
The distortion is not as bad as the treble tho, that will make your neck hairs stand up.

Oh yeah, Ive been reading things about it having a hot pup. However I have also been reading that they kind of fixed it on newer models.
But yeah It would be least of problems just to switch pup if it has issues.

Cause ive seen that price difference between sub and ray 24 is not worth it, cause just by switching pup you can get even better instrument.

And yeah that blue model is my favorite too. So pwetty.

And thanks for heads up, appreciate it!

Btw how is the fretjob out of the box. Is low action manageable?

And if there is sub 5er, how would they manage those frequencies if there are issues below 5th fret.

Its not worth it just because the pick up is not any better, (it only allows you to switch the wiring to parallel, but it is still a hot and nasty pick up), there is not much on that bass that is really an UPGRADE. it is nice looking, has great colors, and is still a very good instrument, but IDK what they were thinking with the pricing, or why they didn’t just make it worth the price?

Of course, every bass could be different out of the box, depending on what employee did final assembly, and / or inspection. Mine was not terrible, but It still needed a quick 5-10 min to get set like I wanted. The intonation was pretty spot on.

The 5 string pick up has different poles for the B string set for different frequencies, but I am sure they are not great either. I can’t say for sure, but
I did see a Lobster video on it, and although it is a 5 string and not a 4 string, it still acted the same way, just at different frequencies.
