I love the matching shirts and everything! So cool that your whole family loves the band! The Cure is really an awesome band. Their bass lines inspired me to start learning to play bass.
In '77, I saw the ELP Works tour with a complete orchestra. Each of the 51 or so orchestral instruments was fitted with a custom mic. The orchestra was seated on a C-shaped stage that surrounded the main stage, but raised 15-20 feet. The conductor was on a platform stage left that scissored up to the orchestra level. Keith’s synths and pianos were raised up to the stage and lowered below it when needed. It was just fantastic. That show in Madison, WI was the first of the tour, which sadly was canceled after only 3 shows, because they had had 4 outdoor festival performances canceled and couldn’t afford to carry on. They came back to Madison about 6 months later just as a trio, touring to recover the losses from the orchestra tour. They thanked us for our sold-out support the first time around. The only tour program I still have is the one from the orchestra tour. It’s a prized possession.
First: Duran Duran Strange Behaviour Tour, NEC Birmingham, 1987
Last: Duran Duran, Latitude, UK, 2024. My daughter’s first festival experience. She’s 10. I should add, on immediately before Duran was Nile freakin’ Rogers. That man is a GOD and a NR / DD double bill was fantastic!
I was going to see The Damned at the end of '24, but show cancelled as The Captain was ill. Next one booked is The Hives, in December of this year.
Bull Market / Moon Pussy / Blood Oath / The New Creep @ The Hi Dive on S Broadway in downtown Denver with my little girl (29 yo little girl), tonight. I’m frikkin pumped.
Pixies and Smashing Pumpkins are both here later this year but honestly with their current lineups the only interest for me would be Jack Bates playing with the Pumpkins. Gonna skip both shows.
First: Rolling Stones. Anaheim, 1978. I was 9. Look up pics from that event and find the one of Mic Jagger standing on stage surrounded by shoes. That happened during Jumping Jack Flash.
Last: Rush. 2008. Concord Pavilion. Epic show.
I’m boring, I guess. I think at this point the only band I’d love to see in concert is Ghost, and that’s pretty unlikely.
Last: Just got home from seeing Social Distortion with Plague Vendor opening. Hadn’t seen Social D in 20 years. Holy smokes is Mike Ness starting to look like an old man. They still put on a good show, it’s pretty much how I remembered them. Plague Vendor was kick ass live. Highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. I was getting some serious Iggy Pop from the 70s vibes from the singer.
I saw them 3 or 4 times between around 97 - 05. This was the least energetic show of theirs that I’ve been to. Understandable considering the band is in their mid 60s (holy. shit. amirite?). It’s hard to be that punk rock all the time. I shouldn’t have been able to stand that close and not be in the pit also. That was on us in the crowd. We’re old too.
finally saw for the first time my favorite band on earth a few weeks ago in st. louis, then followed them back to chicago and saw them again last night. everything i had hoped for and the reputation of being one of the best live bands on the planet is true. also, they announced not only that they are releasing the live album they recorded in CDMX earlier this year but also the film from it is an actual film. it’s being shown in select theaters starting next month. there really isn’t anything this band cannot pull off.
