Damn, @Barney - you’ve got a more active gig calendar than most of my active bands had!
Congrats on finding a crew of people that don’t just get together to jam, but are making things happen.
Unless it’s all you, then congrats on making things happen.

I can trade you the comic books I make for a shirt.

I’d take that deal, @Barney - in ten years time, the books are worth way more than the shirt (any which way you look at it)

Jealousy is such an unattractive emotion @joergkutter

We might be the ‘next big thing’? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Need to move past covers and make original music for that (which is not a dig BTW, more like a prompt that I hope you guys do it! You’ve got everything you need for tools and skills )

@howard we’re a bunch of 50 something’s having a lot of fun playing bar gigs. Please don’t get all “if it’s not original music it’s not legitimate”. That’s totally bogus and you know it  Plenty of people have bought houses and raised families being in top tier cover / wedding bands.

We play originals just to mix it up but it’s not why we keep getting paid to come back.

We’re never going to be anything but Rossland famous and that’s ok by me! We’ll never be the next big thing; I’m just being my usual self deprecating self

Another fun gig Saturday afternoon at Red Mountain. We weren’t sure how busy it would be, but it was rammed.

The bar manager approached us at the end and said “You guys were great. I’d like to get you back and pay you more money if that’s ok?”

Yeah we’re ok with that I guess

Aren’t you doing it for the fun?

I’m doing it for the free meals / drinks in our rider (pulled pork sandwich and potato wedges / side salad plus bottomless mojitos last night)

“Sure, we’ll come back but please don’t pay us more!”

This is why you’re not our manager.

Please let’s not argue about this.

I’ve gone from never playing an instrument as an adult 5 years ago, to being in a bar band with my friends. We get paid to play music, people get up and dance and have a good time.

I’m very OK with my moderate ambitions to just keep doing this and have fun in a party band. I have other interests outside of music and don’t want this thing to stop being just 100% a big laugh.

We’ve been asked to play at bars, birthday parties, fundraisers and someone was even mad enough to try and book us for their wedding.

This is so far beyond where I expected to get, that I’m just really happy playing other peoples songs that the punters enjoy. That’s it.

Saw this text message on our band thread today. That’s all I’m looking for, people having a good time.

I’m too old to be at the tip of the popcultrure zeitgeist. “The kids” shouldn’t give 2 fks about my original music. I’d love to be in a bar band 3 years from now (I just finished my 2nd year) getting paid in crappy appetizers, gin, and spending more on gas to transport my gear there than the venue pays me.

Who’s arguing? I’m saying what you guys have done is awesome and you should consider originals too

It’s a compliment

ooh, looks like Barney has a response:

survey says…

NUMBER ONE!!

Well done, Barney.

(end scene)

Really though, that’s amazing and congrats. Nothing better than having folks want you to come back.
And pay you money.
To play music that is fun.
