Thank you for the support @T_dub
Thank God you werenāt kissing @assbot by mistake
Iām not too far behind as Iām 64. Some days I think Iām 95 as I can never remember why I walked into a room.
Well, unless itās my studio and my basses are giving me that come play with me"look"! LOL
Hell, at 49 I can forget what I am saying, mid sentence, WTF?
I had some medications in the past that made this really bad, so I had to stop taking them once I made the connection.
I have a few TBIās, so I guess its par for the course, or Pre-Alzheimers.
Iām going to start saving now in case this ever happens and Iām involved. Iāve travelled for work a ton and really dislike traveling, but Iād go to Japan for the sole purpose of Bass shopping and hanging.
Looking forward to it if people come, once covid is under control here. Sad to have missed Jerry when he came last time.
Count me in!!
Well I see where this is goingā¦better order another bass rack now.
Itās a really cool place to visit. I had the time of my life when I was fortunate enough to spend 6 weeks there visiting my Dad.
Ok⦠Iām a newbie, so be gentle.
Iāve always wanted to know the difference between a P bass and a Jazz bass? I see that they have different pickups and their tone slightly different as well. But my ears arenāt in tune to identify one or the other by ear.
Also, is one better for playing a certain genre of music over another. Please donāt say Jazz bass is for playing jazz. lol
In a nutshell, P bass is fatter and warmer sounding while Jazz is more mid focused and grindy (cuts more).
Rule 2 in the OP states:
2 - Post the question in the appropriate Forum Section, ie Lounge, Theory etc., this keeps the forum threads uncluttered
This question belongs in the Gear section of the Forum and has nothing to do with this thread.
Not being harsh but this does take the thread off topic.
Click edit and move it to the Gear section please to correct.
A P has a split coil pickup near the neck
A Jazz has two single coil pickups, one neck and one bridge.
A PJ has a split coil near the neck and a Jazz pickup near the bridge.
The manufacturer can label it however they want, for example a Fender Aerodyne is a PJ but says Fender Jazz Series on the headstock.
PJs and Jazz have a wider range of tones, but nothing else sounds like a P bass
Whatās the best bass for metal?
Nobody listens
This is off topic and should be posted in the Gear or possibly Lounge sections of the forum
I donāt think thatās a stupid question. I think itās a good starting point for a discussion, I would follow up with what bands you listen to?
Agree with what @Noisembryo said above, @craig.lox . . .
In addition, the necks are a little different . . . the Precision bass neck is slightly thicker and wider than the Jazz bass. There are subtle differences in the bodies too, but that is a bit more subjective.
Either bass is good, but you should try them both out before you buy one!
And no, a Jazz bass is NOT just for playing jazz . . .
Cheers
Joe
Agreed but it should be in the Gear section of the Forum not in this thread
Probably right, but Iām not concerned with form like that. Rebel rebel
This thinking is why threads get cluttered
