My first stage is in a plastic bucket carboy. I moved it into glass for a second and clarifying stage, then after things settled, another glass carboy. I washed a bunch of scotch bottles today, going to bottle tomorrow hopefully.
Oh totally! You had it worse than I did, lol.
Iām pulling the trigger on a new laptop today. Iāve been not replacing the 10 year old one for a while⦠but it came to a head when it told me it was too old to run Garageband.
(I borrowed a DAI from a friend to do some recording and ended up having to do it on an iPad and would have a hard time recommending that⦠that said I managed to get drums, bass, guitar, and vocals (for which I have no talent, experience, lessons, or practice in) down.
Iāve got no issues doing recordings in logic on my ipad. I do hook it up to an external monitor and use mouse and keyboard though. We just got my Dad a 15" M3 Air for a good price. May be worth checking out if youāre looking to stick with Apple. Iāve got a 15" M2 Air and donāt have a single complaint. Itās a perfect laptop for how I use it, if you can find one of those for a good deal, that might be worth looking at also.
In my case it was āteach yourself garageband and record and figure out the UIā all in one go. (My goal was to get four tracks laid down in one night⦠naturally spending the first 90 minutes making the technology work).
Since I tend to hold computers forever, Iām going w/ an M4 mbp. Iāve got a hook up to soften the blow on price.
An external keyboard, mouse, and screen would likely have made things easier. I was already at capacity with dealing with hardware and truthfully, figuring out how to move the music to the screen or the screen to the music would have put the project over the limit for ādoneā in one evening.
Iāve got the 13" ipad with the M4. That thing is insane. If only ipadOS wasnāt so limitedā¦
Iām trying to decide on how I want to spec out an M4 mini now before tariffs jack the price up by 25 - 60%. Iām finally going to pull the trigger and get rid of my last Windows machine.
I record all my bass covers into GarageBand, on my iPhoneā¦
GAS - China Syndrome
So, from another thread I picked up a Katana 210 back in the states, while my SWR Workingmanās 12 was in transit to China. Alas, I return to China and a wire on my Workingmanās popped loose in transit. This meant I was back to using this amp (the one I used for most of B2B).
I briefly debate a soldering iron purchase, but GAS got the best of me and I rationalized that even if I use the 220V - 110V converter I bought specifically for this purpose, maybe the 50HZ would be a problem. Plus, itās a nearly 25 year old AMP. So I find a Rumble 40 on Taobao.
Delivery was fine, too 2 days. But in China things get delivered to a local post officeā¦where you fish out your own sfuff from a pile. So I get to sort through this and find an amp.
Eventually found it, next problemā¦ā¦Iām armed with exactly a small scooter to get this thing back to my apartment.
Needless to say, both myself and the amp donāt fit on the scooter at the same time, so I have to set the amp on the seat and hold it with one hand and pushing the scooter with the other. Luckily this isnāt abnormal here so the locals didnāt mind me walking down the street like this for 3/4 mile.
ā¦but, it was all worth it in the end!
Excellent choice! I had a 40 in the U.S., but sold it prior to moving to France because it wasnāt dual voltage. Once here, I bought a Studio 40.
If you havenāt seen the video yet, hereās a review of 5 beginner bass amps by our very own @JoshFossgreen .
Yeah I saw that video. Thatās part of what solidified the purchase once I saw I could get my hands on one here! The specs I saw had 50-60Hz as the input frequency so Iām hoping it can take 220V/60Hz.
I too brought my Rumble 40 home on a motorcycle. (It rode strapped down between me and the top case.). Admittedly It was a bigger bike.
Grabbed up a nice pedalboard bag from Electro Harmonix this morning off of FB marketplace for $15
Also happy that this purchase is going to dictate how I make my new pedalboard. The nice thing about this case is the top zips right off so my board can just live in it.
Did it come with the pedalboard still inside?
This bag has a padded bottom with Velcro but itās not rigid enough for me. Iām about to post a long form post on the 24x11" pedal board I built today though
Mine has it stamped into the headstock just below the S/N. Itās very hard to see, even when looking for it. I had to have it in just the right light to even see it.
Sweet. Iāve owned two instruments from that factory and they were the best made instruments I have owned.

This looks to be fabulously made, and for a bass from 1986 itās in fantastic shape. Just a few light scratches that could be buffed out if I cared, and one tiny ding.
It just arrived today and I couldnāt put it down for hours. The reverse-P sounds really, really good! Neck isnāt quite as chunky as my other P-style bass (a good thing IMHO), and it feels ājust rightā. I normally donāt care for glossy necks, either.
Itās heavy. But again, I was able to play for hours on it with no issues, and I havenāt even put the straplock pins on it yet so that I can use my Comfort Strapp with it yet. Not so much as an inkling of neck dive, LOL.
BBās, man. Gotta love them.

Do you know what they used to finish these with? Mine seems to have that nitrocellulose off-gas smell to it. (Or maybe thatās just old case smell, what do I know? )
These days itās just a normal poly finish but not sure for back then.
