Just a shot in the dark but I thought I might list this one here before I take it all the way back to bone stock again. It’s a Lake Placid Blue Classic Vibe Late '60s Jazz Bass that I’ve customized to my liking. The add on upgrades are the Chrome Babicz FCH Bridge, Bill Lawrence/Wilde J45 Noiseless Air Gap Pickups, and a chrome control plate cloth wired with CTS pots, an .047 Orange Drop Cap, and a Switchcraft Jack.

The frets have been leveled, crowned, and polished at Woodsong Lutherie in Boulder, CO and it’s wearing a brand new set of GHS Pressurewound strings. It’s in mint condition. I bought it on a whim primarily because it’s nearly identical to the '66 Jazz Bass I played all through HS and because I wanted to upgrade it as I’ve done before with my PBass and another CV '60s Jazz Bass I sold several years ago.

The reason it’s for sale is I don’t really need 4 basses. My G&L M2000 covers much of the same ground and I’ll use the proceeds to add a second Genzler Bass Array Cab to my Magellan 350 Combo to bring it up to where it can handle any gig I’d ever do now.

The upgrades alone if purchased retail would run $400 in addition to the $470 MSRP of the bass itself. As many would already know Fender is not offering this model in LPB at the current time. I’m asking $600 for it as she sits. I’d obviously prefer a local or regional sale but can ship it if required. It’s a great bass just one more than I need right now.

Am I right in assuming the Katana Go also doesn’t allow you to listen to music as well as the bass like the Waza does

Thanks

No you can do that.

Excellent choice sir! What a beauty :+1:

I know you have probably shaken the GAS monkey off your back for the moment but as a Ricker myself, I would recommend (1) new pickguard (2) remove pickup cover (3) new bezel for the bridge pickup. This could be just the beginning your GASing

Great advice! And flats…I must have flats! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The treble bezel is almost essential. I have iron my ā€˜72 4001.

Also consider a HipShot bridge for lower action.
I use La Bella low tension flats as the older Rics have neck issues but man, I’d use them anyway on any Ricky.

Congrats.

A brave decision my friend. In Rickenbackers the decision to choose string type is not one to be taken lightly…

If you choose to follow the way of the flat @AZBob , I recommend the Optima 4440 L.

A little pricey, but with a unique , warm flat tone that is nearly acousic, and very forgiving. I think McCartney himself used them to string his axe.

Ah! I forgot you had a pre-2020 bridge. Yeah definitely upgrade that if you get the chance. Check out @John_E 's Rick for a gorgeous skunk stripe model

I realized that bonus day at work is in 5 weeks. No idea what amount I’m getting (will get a better idea in a couple weeks), but I’m already spending it on bass gear in my head.

A better tuner, a multi-effects box, maybe even a second bass (like a Sire V5 or V7?)…

How good is your amp / sound situation? If you’re good there, I might look at a higher end multi effect. If you’re willing to shop off of Reverb, you might be able to work a good multi effect and Sire.

My amp is a Rumble 25. So, not super fancy. I’m also only playing in my office at home, so it seems to do enough - I don’t have the volume on the amp anywhere near 11.

I was looking at the Zoom B2 Four for the multi-effect.

I’m not totally against Reverb, but I always have this thing where my brain thinks ā€œthey must be selling this because this one is brokenā€ and thus has a problem with buying used for things that I can also get new for just a bit more.

ETA: I did go out to Reverb just now to look at the Zoom box, and see a combo deal that includes a new Zoom, headphones, the power adapter and a couple instrument cables for like $20 more than I could get just the box on Sweetwater.

Nor am I…for searching, but not for buying. For example, I had been looking for a passive short scale EBMM Tim Commerford Stingray. I finally found one on Reverb. 4300 € plus 400 € shipping. The posting listed the seller in Tallinn, Estonia (also in the EU, so no import duty to France). The seller’s boutique website had that bass listed for 3899 € with free shipping. Buying direct saved me a ton of money, plus I was able to have a conversation with the seller before purchasing. He had sold it to a local guy who played it once and returned it. So, it was basically new, but because it was ā€œusedā€ I didn’t have to pay the 20% VAT. I saved even MORE money. The pickguard and pickups still had the plastic protection on them. I had a very high level of confidence before spending the money.
