I don’t understand the reluctance to drill a slightly larger hole (probably a 1/32 inch, maybe a 1/16th tops) than the existing one in your bass. It’s not a priceless Fabergé egg, it’s just a bass. Take a chance once in a while.
Well haven’t been around for a while - regular drill: work, family and music
Now one of my “bands” (rather projects I guess) stopped, another one is doing but got into a new one: blues/rock, awesome musicians, first time in a real rehearsal room (playing through a 410 etc), excellent.
Now I decided to test some distortion as thickening up the sound and heard sooooo much about the Joyo Monomyth that had to test it. I used a Behringer BDI21 so far and love the sound but switching between distorted and not-so-much distorted is painful (I mean go to board, bend and turn 2-3 pots to levels remembered etc), Monomyth has a dedicated switch.
Now today I did an A/B comparison and while the Joyo has the distortion button for convenience but sound wise it’s just sooooooo empty(?)
Not sure which one to keep, don’t want to use both (my Boss little box houses only 3 pedals and tuner+compressor remains), any recommendation is appreciated
P.s.: also got a big Thomann box this week but it “only” had a Mono case, love it! And thinking about getting another P bass (maybe a diy kit?) as want a P with rounds and my first P has La Bellas - first world problem I know
Thanks - well the concept is to keep it down at 3 pedals so only one slot for preamp/distort, the BDI21 is good but not convenient, so far I can’t make the Monomyth sound as good as the BDI however easy to use, and already have these. Will think about maybe returning the Joyo and requesting a dedicated one but then also need to replace the board. Damn
I’m fond of the Boss OdB-3. Great grit with tons of range and dry blend helps it to keep from losing the bottom end. The parametric eq is a little more dynamic than my BDI21. YMMV
OK - firstly I have ordered* another pedal board (to fit more than 3) and will play with using both preamps (Monomyth for distortion/fuzz and possibly EQ, BDI21 for its wonderful sound).
Then find out if Thomann takes it back full price only as not needed (but not faulty) and get the Muff or the ODB3 instead.
*: While at it ordered a DIY PBass set as well for the spring break to build with my 8-year-old son (he paints, I’ll support ) and that will solve my roundwound/P combo need
