GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Yes. This is why I moved to fully in the box.

The workflow of recording clean and then tweaking the effects in software is just so much more effective for me; I really loved the pedals I had but I am so much happier now being fully working in the DAW. And since I have no desire to play live any more it’s a no-brainer.

tee-hee…I guess I must be somewhere below no-brain…when I started learning the bass I already had Logic and literally thousands of $ of pro plugins (including a stacked UAD octo) but I went for an all analog pedal board even though I have no goal to ever play live…for me having little boxes to tweek when playing (and playing through bass amp & speaker rather than PA or monitors) is just a part of bass playing that was essential to the experience for me

Hah yeah should have said a no-brainer for me. I will never harsh on what works for others

Now that I’ve had one method bite me in the ass, I kinda dig the ability to do both tbh.

I’m enjoying my hybrid setup now with my MiniFreak. It’s pretty much perfect for it though as the integration with MiniFreak V is pretty neat.

That’s what I like about the Helix (HX Stomp XL in my case). You can dial in a sound that you can use to track the song - and record that and the DI simultaneously. So if it works, great. If not, you can tweak it.

Another thing you will find is that sometimes just having the dry track is enough to fix the effected track. Blending in a bit of the dry bass can help a lot in some situations.

New Origin Effect Bassrig that simulates the Ampeg B-15 Portaflex amp. Gassing hard on this one, I also love the B-15 sound, but the price tag is hefty

I don’ tknow about this - I would go with the Ampeg SGT-DI instead and also get the SVT sims. I own one and absolutely love it. Not sure I would pay OI (even though they are great) when you can go straight to the horses mouth and get extra stuff with it.

The advantage with this is that it takes up a lot less room on a pedalboard than the SGT or SVT DI. That was the only reason that I sold mine.

Ooooh…. a Hydrasynth in a wind controller… very, very tempting :astonished:

It looks like a digital flute

Well, yeah, it is  It can control any synth with MIDI, but not all synths (or, better patches) do a good job in working with or reacting to breath control, so this one also comes with its own synth and patches for that purpose.

I have an old Yamaha WX-7, which is at least 30 years old, but it has some (mechanical) issues. I have a very recent NuRAD, which is great, but I am not too fond of its controls (sensors as opposed to mechanical/tactile switches). This one looks like a good replacement option…

ASM makes great synths; I seriously considered a Hydrasynth.

Oh sweet, congrats! That’s about the best there is until you go Quad Cortex.

I haven’t plugged it in yet, had to go run errands with my wife. I did register it and pick up Helix Native to go with though. I’ll dig into it this evening when I get time to sit down and play. One possible issue I’m seeing atm is output. I use the open usb on my macbook for my mixer and the other goes to the docking station. I need to figure out how to run the Helix to my macbook for the editor and input, and my mixer for the output > studio monitors. I think I have an open usb-c on my dock, I haven’t looked yet.

USB-C hub should be fine.
