GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

The digital mixer / IEMs have been fantastic. The last gig we showed up. I gave the sound guy the labeled XLR cables and that was it. He was expecting to have to mic up all the cabs etc. We were done soundcheck in 15 mins. No more feedback from the monitors. We can all hear ourselves clearly. The singing is better because she can hear herself better. All round good decision.

Which IEM do you use?

This is barely visable and works great, cheap too…

I have one on my banjo.

Only thing on front is the small black rectangle of a clip

Yeah. Absolutely, I have it on a few of my basses. I use the clip on strobe tuner to tune and this D’Addrio usually just stays on to monitor.

Ive got a new tube preamp on it’s way. Ill build out a mini board to pair with my helix with a tuner (loathe the helix one), this preamp and one of my reverbs that I can’t replicate. I may slap a DI on if Ive got the space , just to make it a fully functional mini go board.

@antonio
I have two of the Daddario micro tuners and they work great. Highly recommended.

I really like my Korg Pitchblack X. Super easy big display makes tuning a breeze.

I run a strobo stomp outboard of my HX Stomp (and wouldn’t have it any other way), but curious what you didn’t like about the Helix tuner? IIRC, there are options you can configure for it.

I am pretty addicted to mixers for studio use too. I’m using a mid-tier audio interface doubling as a monitor controller and digital mixer for this. I am only using six ins right now but technically have up to 24 with optical expansion.

Oh cool you got a Sushi Box. How easy is it to swap out the tube?

Not sure, I only just picked one and ordered it today (went with the one based on the JCM800… Lemmy :sign_of_the_horns: ). Think this is one of the ones that comes with 12AU7’s. I believe its as simple as take off the cover. Now I’m debating preemptively picking up a couple of 5751 or 12AX7’s to have on hand.

Cool. Yeah they usually ship stock with 12AX7. I really liked the JJ5751 I had too.

fantastic guitar amp

Well @everyone have a very successful and happy new year

So here we are again, have been offered an Aerodyne - supposedly perfect neck (most important to me - straight with working truss rod) but lots of battle scars, based on S/N its CiJ 2006-2008, for 900EUR (1060USD), would you go for it or be patient to get one in better condition? I can try it Saturday, still not sure if wanna drive 3 hours and spend this amount…. What do you guys say?

900 euros with that kind of damage is perhaps a bit on the high side (seems it got dropped), but this one does look amazing and they are quite rare in our regions.

That color is really nice too… I can’t help you bud

I have checked Reverb and found two pretty nice condition Aerodynes for 800 Euros including shipping - from Japan, ablack and a white one as well.

Not sure if I wanna risk a shipment (and taxation / customs issues), anyone with any relevant experience with ordering off of Reverb from Japan to Europe?

You risk getting slapped with your local VAT rate, customs fees and any other processing fee your authorities might find appropriate. For me here in DK, VAT would be the main issues, adding another 25% (i.e., 200 Euros) to the cost of the instrument.

As for the other offer you had: have you tried to negotiate? Offer 700 and see what they say…

I’d passed.

Just found a video showing the process for swapping them out. Different preamp than mine but it’s the same dual tube chasis.

Nice setup :ok_hand: IEMs are an absolute game-changer for singers. I sang one outdoor gig where the sound tech was superb and stage monitors worked well, but normally I’d always prefer to use the IEMs.

Yeah I have have hearing loss, so the difference between stage monitors / wedges and using IEMs is massive.
