I’m not really a gear acquirer, but I’ve just ordered EMG Geezer Butler pickups to replace the no name, no brand pickups that had been put on my bass some time in the past.

I’m excited to take off the old pickups and see if I can figure out what they actually are, because they’re definitely not stock. But I’m mainly looking forward to replacing all the dodgy wiring and knobs.

Bought about 10 different types / brands of flats to try recently and think I’m going to stick with DR Legend’s on my new Baum Bass. With La Bella Deep Talking Flats a close second.

Thinking I might create a thread where BassBuzzers can buy the old (literally 20 minutes of play time) flats off me. Maybe just cover the postage. Sound like a good idea?

Anyway stumbled across this guy. Clicked for the string comparison, stayed for the playing

Was one of the ten the Rotosounds? If so what did you think about them? I have some but haven’t strung them up yet.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If they’re just going to clutter up your space why not move them on? Might not even need its own thread, could go in here. SAG - Selling Aquired Gear

Welp there my christmas gift for those year. I was already thinking hard about the regular quad cortex

I still love the Anagram but I kind of wish I had held off for a month before buying

It’s probably most useful for those who play bass and guitar. I own a second hand Nano cortex and I think the (sound) quality is top tier. I prefer this over my Tonex, but I am also a big NeuralDSP fanboy

I really like my helix. Being able to capture my Meris and Keeley reverbs so that I don’t need a second pedalboard plus getting my hooks into the Nueral DSP cloud though, yes please. Plus, the size of that mini is nuts. The only thing that I don’t care for is where they put the 4 footswitches. Seems like they’d be awkward to use.

Can I ask why x 2? Why do you love it, and why do you wish you’d held off?

I have no need for them but GAS struck and now I have a pedal board with;

Electro Harmonix Pico Canyon Echo Delay Mini Pedal

Electro Harmonix Nano Q-Tron Envelope Filter

Electro Harmonix Bass Big Muff Pi

Lets see how much fun we can have!

Wait. It’s the same price???

  1. So many options, effects, and tones ALL for bass (rather than being made for guitar but here’s a few things for the bass mutts). Form factor, I/O, easy to use interface and touchscreen (though I wish the screen were bigger). They update it a lot so it’s only getting better with time

  2. Mostly just to consider an alternate option. The Quad Cortex is proven and well supported for years so no mystery on whether it will continue being supported. Equally nice form factor. Even more I/O. The bigger screen size, an extra foot switch. GAS. So if I hadn’t bought the Anagram last month I’d be considering between these two options

Not quite, the mini is a couple of hundred less. It’s only $1400.

Been thinking about getting a 5-string. Haven’t been overwhelmed by the need for one though.

But now I have a line on a Ray35 HH for $400… and that seems too tempting to pass up.

Talk me in/out.

Well, if you don’t feel a need… or see a need given the music you like and the music you are playing, then I would advise against a 5’er. It might end up as 400 bucks standing around not being used…

I love five-string basses, but I am also into fusion  If you’re into fusion or gospel, or metal, or perhaps Latin, then I would certainly recommend starting to explore 5’ers. If it’s mostly straightahead rock, blues and soul… not so much!

$400 for a Ray35 sounds like an incredible deal. Is there something wrong with it? That said if you don’t really need/want a 5 string I wouldn’t do it but that is a hard price to pass up
