GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Thanks, @howard . Unfortunately here a regular new Fender MIM is above $1000 and a MIJ much more. Good point regarding Fujigen.

How much is import duties? Shipping would be maybe $200-300 tops, and the new MIJ Fenders retail for a bit under $700.

About 20%-30%. Too much. It ends up being almost the same as buying it here. Furthermore, if it is not shipped via DHL or Fedex it can take months because of customs… or never arrive.

Wow! Mexico is hardcore

Well, if you ever visit, we’ll go shopping.

This is the 2007 Standard, the second option. I don’t love the red of the sunburst.

Yeah like the’84 much better myself

I meant Standard, not Player. Sorry. But I agree with you. Regarding the truss rod and neck I can’t say but I could always return it free of charge. Thanks, @Al1885 !

The MIM Standard series is not very interesting. The MIJ '84 must be significantly better.

I checked the serial number as far as possible and P+6 digits corresponds to 1983-1984.

Try it on for size and return it if it doesn’t make you swoon. I’ve done that with several basses. Only returned two. :smirk:

I was already about to do that but decided to get some opinions here first. Thank you, @MikeC

It is! Check this out… $1,500 USD for a MIJ Aerodyne on sale. No P-bass available.

Aside from fender Japan custom shop, the very early Mijs 82-84 are highly sought after. I bought and sold several Mij mostly Stratocaster I got to do a lot of homework’s :joy:

It is very uncommon for such a bass to be up for sale here! I just asked regarding the truss rod, neck and frets. I’m waiting for an answer. Thank you, @Al1885

I believe P+6 serial number is 1993-1994 rather than '80s
still a good bass, I have 2 of these MIJ P basses and would recommend them

I just looked it up again and you seem to be right! Either I looked up in the wrong place or I made a mistake. Thank you for pointing it out. As long as it works well… Thanks, @g13dip

@franx, the Guitar Dater Project indicates 93-94 as well.

Unfortunately, that serial (assuming I’m reading it right, P039663) doesn’t return anything on Fender’s website, but that does NOT mean it’s not a legit serial number. My 2021 Aerodyne’s serial doesn’t come up on the website either even though the serial numbers right on either side of it do come up and both return as Aerodynes.

Thanks, @Dahveed. Seems to be correct. I found this at How can I find out when my Japanese-made instrument was manufactured?  Ā· Customer Self-Service

OK, everyone. I pulled the trigger. Now comes the guilt and waiting period…
As long as it plays well I’ll be thrilled independently of the year or factory and a good and used P-Bass has been my dream for a long time.

I want to thank everyone for their time and input. I appreciate it!
I will keep you posted. I wish everyone a great week! Cheers!

Nah, don’t feel guilty. I’m very early in learning to play again and I already bought a second bass because I wanted to have a 5-string as well. Ages ago I had an Ibanez Ergodyne EDC705. Found one that looks to be in great shape on Reverb and pulled the trigger even though I absolutely do not need a second bass right now lol.
