GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

 That’s a good one but i’d rather go for a girls name and ā€œGirls with comb oversā€¦ā€
I don’t think so… But I am getting much older…

ā€œMiyukiā€ can mean ā€œbeautyā€ + ā€œrespect/honorā€; I don’t think it is a common spelling though, I had to look it up

ē¾Žę

I don’t remember ever seeing it written like this but I am also basically illiterate

I bought it over an online store called MercadoLibre that’s like an Amazon where you can buy and sell new/used stuff. I have no real reason to think it was stolen, besides if it was then selling it in the case with the logo of the band is not exactly a bright idea.

It’s a good one for a white bass too as it can also mean ā€œBeautiful Snowā€

Can confirm!
It’s basically my Harley Benton MV-4MSB as long scale, slightly different body & P-only version! There is also a P/J version…

I have kept on looking at this GAS thread and thinking wow, how is this happening to so many others, but it really hasn’t happened to me. Well, that was the case up until earlier this week.

I have been pretty content with the two basses I have, a Fender Player Jazz Bass and Squier Classic Vibe '60s Fretless Jazz Bass. This provides a wide range of sounds. However, I have had a desire to expand my sonic palette. On Tuesday I made the hour and a half drive up to the Guitar Center in Reno to try many different basses for sound and feel. I felt like I was Goldilocks desiring something that was just right.
I tried a P Bass, but the neck felt too big.
I tried a few Ibanez basses and while the necks were more comfortable, something just didn’t feel quite right.
I tried a 5-string, I tried a Yamaha, and many others. I even tried a Squier Jazz bass for a familiar reference.
Then I tried some Sterling Music Man StingRays. I felt a connection and heard something new to add to my sonic palette. The tone and the sustain. I went back and forth between 4HH and 4H models. They felt so smooth and solidly built. They also offered a lot of versatile sounds. Then I found myself going back to two of the 4HHs again and I knew that GAS had set in.

I would have left the store with one of them if they were willing to offer either one at their current advertised online sale price on a Sterling by Music Man StingRay Ray4HH in Chopper Blue ($339 - $90 off of full price.)
They had a new one in Olive listed at $429 and a used one in Chopper Blue for $399. Well, they told me that they wouldn’t come down in price if the same model bass was in a different color and they wouldn’t come down in price on a used bass in the same color. Hmmm.

So, I went home and searched online and found my desired Sterling by Music Man StingRay Ray4HH in Chopper Blue available at Musician’s Friend brand new for $100 off. I called their number and spoke to Nate, one of their reps and was able to get an additional 15% discount on some other already on sale items to go with my new bass (stand, strings, and a strap.)

I also looked up Musician’s Friend online and saw that it is owned by Guitar Center. Hmmm again.

According to tracking, my new bass should be arriving this week.

I also found a custom pickguard to replace the boring, plain white one.

The excitement and anticipation is building.

Congrats! Sterlings are fine basses snd there’s nothing like an MM pup. You’re gonna love your new baby. It quite possibly could become your go-to.

I Have a Sterling MM 4 string 1H
Really good bass for the price and imho starter friendly.

You might need a setup. Mine came with D G with very high action and E A, were fretting… so I dont think they invest any time in it… just dont let them change the strings.

It depends on who you buy a Sterling from. I bought mine from Pitbull Audio (California) and it arrived inspected and set up beautifully, free of charge. There are other vendors who do the same. For example, Thomann Music also provides these services.

My Ibanez arrived sharp from there… even without request (tbh I forgot).

The Sterling I bought from a shop in Portugal.
They opened the box in front of me… checked for damage, electronics, etc… and sent me omw. Tbf… I should’ve tried that one in the shop… not only the demo one.

Congrats!!!
This is the bass I used for my Simms Quad pickup build. I like everything about it and for the price it’s an incredible deal. The only issue mine has is I’m at the end of the truss rod adjustment during some seasons and may be an issue in the future, but not now. Give that a quick check maybe.
