GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Happy birthday indeed. There is almost no bass better than a birthday bass.

This depends on what it is, where you are, and what inventories they have at the moment, can be crap and can be great. 1 or 2x a year they also do a promotion where they offer you more for the used bass and also even more to buy something new. I did this once and made out like a bandit too. These are good promos to look out for if considering selling and buying like you did. Congrats!

Absolutely! It takes no time to get used to and switching between a ‘standard’ and a fan-fret bass is easy. I love mine!

Yeah, agreed. I thought it would be weird the first time I played it but, not even. It was almost like my hands wanted to play on fanned frets and “standard” frets were the outliers. Which is, I suppose, the point, what with fanned frets being all ergonomically correct and stuff.

Agree. To anyone nervous about playing fanned frets don’t be, the adjustment is super easy

Sure you can, all you have to do is keep playing the C on B string and F on E string. :joy:

Fanned frets… or Multiscale are awesome, imho.
How quickly I jumped from my 4 to my 6MS was crazy… and my natural wrist/finger twist seem compensated by the fanning of the frets!

I have a custom short scale 4 string MS and Ibanez 6 string MS. It’s more for the looks than performance for me. Fretting even on the frets on the MS will be quite natural even during the first session.

I stretch the fan frets on my custom short scale to the max for the visual.

I ordered a Blood Red Bongo last Thursday! It was shipped next business day which would be Monday. Early Monday morning it was at the FedEx ship center in my town and was transferred to the Distro center in West Palm Beach. At about 0630 it was put on a truck and scanned out for delivery at a FedEx office. It never arrived and was scanned back in at noon Monday at WPB. Tuesday morning the 9th, it was scanned out for delivery about 0624. That was the last scan on it. On Tuesday it was not delivered, I called FedEx customer service and the rep told me it was now scheduled for Wednesday the 10th. After not arriving Wednesday, I called again. The rep said “maybe” Thursday, he also sent a n inquiry to the distro center which was not answered. When I looked up the ref number for the inquiry, it said case closed. Today, Thursday the status still says out for delivery June 9th. I called again (3rd day in a row) Rep said They are going to load it on a truck at 1pm and deliver it this afternoon. Somehow, I don’t believe it! I think someone somewhere is gigging it or its for sale in Miami out of the trunk of a car! My sales rep says FedEx is probably backed up from the holiday. Just venting!

We need to start GAS-Anonymous…

I went on Amazon to look for gloves for arthritis (suggested by @joergkutter ) and then went down a slippery slope of of stools, books… Wooten’s worshop, etc)

Suddently I had 300€ in my cart. Cancelled all and now only the gloves in the cart… but had to pause and leave Amazon for a while before I start adding stuff…

Time for an update or maybe this could be called GAS relief.

My Sterling by Music Man StingRay Ray4HH in Chopper Blue arrived yesterday.

Here is the a before picture with our cat Synthia just after I took it out of the box.

Since she is pretty much deaf, she likes to hang out next to my amp to feel it when I play bass. I think that she will appreciate some bass boost on the active EQ.

I also need to mention that I am thoroughly impressed with how great this bass feels right out of the box. Solid, smooth, playable, and it sounds great. There was a sticker with the name ‘Anwar’ on the headstock. He did an excellent job on the inspection/set up on this bass.

Here are a couple of pictures after I put on a custom Dark Blue Pearloid pickguard.

Our cat Jett thinks that I should play more songs using a pick since I went through the effort to change the pickguard.

Our dog Zooey approves of the new bass and she thinks that I should work on other techniques such a slapping and tapping along with playing finger style.

Next up will be changing the strings to D’Addario XL Half Rounds.

How long will this GAS relief last? Why am I already thinking about a second fretless bass since I now have two fretted basses?
