GAS - Gear Acquisition Syndrome (Part 2)

Hmmmm. Perhaps. Need to read the manual, maybe one of the knobs enables that function?!

I spent a half hour playing a BB300 ($400) today and managed to set it back on the rack. I’m still sad that I didn’t leave with it. It felt so nice in my hands. If it hasn’t sold by next weekend, I’m taking that as a sign.

Once the BB bug bites…

I will travel to Miami tomorrow for just two days and found a used SGT DI on Guitar Center for $325. I bought it on Thursday with my international American Express card and the folks at GC simply weren’t able to process it in three days until I cancelled since they also couldn’t guarantee it would arrive in time. I tried a second purchase of a Line 6 Pod Express and same thing. They have to verify I actually bought it and the Amex authorization code I provided was not enough. There goes my chance… I’m not willing to pay $550 Dollars for it in Mexico.

OK, I’m kinda freaking out a little because I normally don’t like block inlays at all.

But…

*bites palm*

This is not the bass you’re looking for. Move along, move along

Their necks with rosewood and block inlays sure are a thing

So, it’s still there. I’m wondering your thoughts on pulling the trigger on a 300. The CFO signed off on the purchase. I’ve wanted a P bass, which this one more or less is. It’s one of the MIT Yammies with the reverse P pickups and the longer horn. I love the way it plays, but am I going to be left wanting when I’ve been lusting after the 734 (which is most definitely not a P bass) for months?

Well, I don’t really see any issue here - you get this BB300 and in case your desire for the 734 persists then get that one as well. I mean c’mon, it’s GAS topic for a good reason, right? :smiling_imp: :joy:

Anyone else here try the API compressor? I was thoroughly unimpressed at first, but like most compressors, you miss it when it’s gone.

I wouldn’t look at it as you want the BB734A and may be disappointed by the 300. I would look at it as now you want both

The only caveat I would have would be the usual one about buying vintage gear. But if you have checked it out in person and it’s fine, go for it; great basses.

My Made in Taiwan Yamahas are the highest quality instruments I have yet owned, even more so than my MIJ Fenders.

Think it was @g13dip who wrote a positive review about an API compressor. Should be somewhere on this forum.

Yes I have the API and think it is great…I find the feed forward and feed back modes quite different (old/new switch) but both are very much API studio style compression which is what I wanted
this review is a good summary, and has a good bit about how to dial it in
Compressorpedalreviews-API comp

The name of the game here is to set the level of input signal (probably at least noon or more on the dial), then set your desired level of compression, then decide how much of your dry signal you want blended in (comes down to feel and dynamics control) and then set the volume at the end. Simple as that.

I actually have the TranZformer LX that I went with because I’m a big fan of API in the studio. Can’t say that I’ve mastered it, but I can get an acceptable tone out of it. I’m taming a verellen meatsmoke with it, so it has some work to do.

ohh the old beast…I have never heard the LX but I the LLX pedal carries on from that while the comp stuff is now in the dedicated cmp pedal

Sandberg makes great basses, i’ve got the beaten up version

Welp, I just did a thing. I checked the serial and it was made on Sept. 18th 1986. I’ll head down to pick it up this weekend (it’s on the other side of the Denver metro area).
