I slept on it and I think I’ll just hold off on the used 734. I want the red one, so I’ll just wait and do it next month.

I told my wife while we were putting sheets on the bed that I got you back for enabling GAS, to which she asked if I got the bass. Said no, checked Sweetwater and there was the open box for $100 off the normal price and figured fate was telling me something.

I want to meet the woman/man who signed up for a forum account to ask/get bass gift ideas for their significant other.

That person deserves lots of hearts and sainthood

Excellent! I waffled between that and the new GX-10. Ultimately I went with the GX so that I can go USB-C into my macbook and fiddle with it through tone studio without having to kneel down.

TBH - I doubt mine is gonna spend much time on the floor… as I have no aspirations of being a gigging bassist… I have a nice plot set up for it on my table… right in front of where I do my learning :stuck_out_tongue: LOL

Edit: The revision of the GT-1B has that USB link to PC now for patch editing

meanwhile yeah my characters are squished to L50

So the 734, I assume it’s going to come with rounds on it? I’m debating trying a set of light gauge (40 - 96) pressure wounds. Would I be better off with mediums?

Yes it comes with D’Addario EXL .45-100’s. These are excellent rounds.

I’m just not a fan of any of the rounds I’ve played on. I almost sold my Reverend until I put GHS’s on. The same way you are with flats, I am with rounds (sensory thing).

Many new basses come with D’Addario rounds. I replace them right away. I don’t like their feel. Not because they’re rounds but because they feel coarse.

I replace them with much smoother round core strings: SIT Foundations, DR Pure Blues, or my fave TI Jazz Rounds. The TI are the absolute smoothest feeling and they sound and play great for a really long time.

Before you write them all off, maybe try a coated round like Elixirs? Understood though, flats will sound great and very classic on a BB.

Between the SIT’s and DR Blues, which one is going to feel smoother on the fingers in your opinion? My issue with round wounds is that I don’t like the roughness of them so maybe trying a cheap round core roundwound might do the trick. At $20 it isn’t as big of an investment to experiment as the TI’s.

Zzze Zzzzermans like these strings:

I tried those before I settled on the GHS pressurewounds. Only set of strings I’ve taken off and thrown away within a week. They have the worst sound qualities of rounds and flats. They sounded dead out of the package, but not in the cool broken in flatwounds kind of way.

Ah, good to know - not gonna buy them for my fretless now!
