Another really nice P5 demo.
The M series head stock looks like something left over after they cut out some other parts I dont really notice it any more though… the rest of their head stocks arent great but they’re not horrible, at least they chose to do something different.
Yep, my M5 headstock is really a shame. The rest of the instrument’s lines are great.
Actually I kind of like them. Better than Fender anyway. Fender headstocks are just too big. Still getting used to that part myself
@howard I’ve always felt the same way.
I like the Fender headstock because I’m very used to it and it’s just the “normal” headstock for a P or a J. That said, I find that the Sire headstock is not the ugliest one. Actually my favorite non-Fender headstock for Fender-like instruments may be the Harley Benton one.
I think Yamaha has some of the best headstocks out there! Classic, simple and they always seem well balanced aesthetically.
Both can be true!
Id say the the same for music man.
I agree. And the attention to the fit and finish of the headstock and hardware is damned impressive.
Did you know there’s also a Dame guitars?

No, never made my radar.
I went with a sire P7. I think you can achieve so many different sounds with it. Squire potential quality issues were a turn off for me. Great support from Sire. I felt it was better value and comparable to a more expensive Fender. I emailed them for something and I had a guick response within hours.
What did you choose?
I own a Squier CV 60s Jazz Bass and a Sire U5 shortscale bass so I’ll comment based on that. IMHO they’re close enough in quality that a lot depends on personal preference.
As far as features and finish go I’d give an edge to the Sire over the current Squier CV models. IME the older MIC Squiers were a notch better but even then I might choose a Sire over one. I believe the value is just enough better to justify it.
This is pretty old thread, so many basses went through my hands.
I had one CV 70s which I regretted selling, it was better than some Fenders I had.
In the end I bought CV70s again, just for the body, everything else is changed. However I’m still waiting luthier to finish the neck.
Right on! Do you have a picture?
This was the starting point of the bass. You can already see here higher mass bridge.
And nearly finished new neck
Final spec’s would be, speced out as 1974 Fender Jazz.
- CV 70’s body
- Custom `74 replica neck
- Fender Pure Vintage `74 pups
- US Made Hipshot Ultralite tuners
- Vintage high mass bridge
- Fender Pure vintage pots 250K
- Fender Pure Vintage capacitor .05 MFD
- Cloth braided wiring
Still waiting to get my hands on it.
Wow! I hope it exceeds your expectations. Thanks for sharing!
Just a P7-swamp ash with a maple neck (not roasted). I will take a picture once I decide on the perfect photo shoot location.
