Introduce Yourself! (2023)

Welcome, @jwharton41 ! Glad to see another former euphonium and trombone player join the ranks, although it’s been about 20 years since I played brass.

A friend loaned me a spare Yamaha bass about a year ago and I aimlessly noodled around on it for a while. Then I stumbled upon Josh’s free YouTube videos, and I’ve been squeezing everything I can out of them. I pulled the trigger today on the B2B course, 'cause if his freebies have engaged my interest and have motivated me this much, the formal course must be awesome. I feel like I’ve already gone from beginner to half-assed and want to now work towards full badass.

Hi there,
I’m John. Just joined. Have a Fender J that I purchased in 2002. Have been plunking along trying to self teach with a book, but life keeps happening. Heading into retirement, have decided to give it another chance. Been watching some You Tube videos and found this course. I took my bass to get set up(first time since purchasing) yesterday, we’ll see how that works. So will be starting fresh. Not the most technically savvy person, this could be interesting. Looking forward to seeing if Josh can help this older guy play some tunes!

Welcome to the group @rivrpaddler, glad you joined us. Don’t worry, a lot of us here are old-ish.

Hello @rivrpaddler. I also just joined and am also from a well-aged vintage. Retired in 2019 five months before COVID hit and have been using the time and the freedom to get caught up on a lot of activities I couldn’t do while working and raising a family. I was skeptical that I could learn a new instrument at this age, but it’s coming along much better than I expected. I credit Prof. Fossgreen’s teaching methods: keeps things interesting; serves up bite-sized chunks; mixes theory, playing, and fun in good proportions. And his production standards are very professional. (Sounds like I’m kissing up to the teacher :apple:, but I am seriously impressed with how much progress I made just from his free YouTube videos and am stoked to work toward the next level with this B2B course.)
Good luck.

Thanks, Much the same here. Though I am prone to pick up the canoe paddle far more than the bass… Been my excuse for the past 12 yrs. Hoping to change that. I tried to learn guitar at 13/14… ran into a “teacher” that was more interested in showing what he could do on a guitar, than teaching. Bought the bass to fill time after divorce…What was I thinking? 2 kids, no time. Got into canoeing, met new wife and here we are. Looking for things to occupy mind and body… Gonna do this!
