Hello, I’m a 61 year old in Nanaimo, BC. Started playing bass in classic rock, blues & R&B bands in my 20s & 30s. Stopped playing live while raising my kiddies. Recently back into playing again and working on getting my old chops back but having trouble finding them lol

Welcome, @NBP. Glad you’re here. Them chops are in there somewhere. Beginner to Badass is an excellent jump-start course for someone who played back in the day. It’s chock-full of old and new tricks (not to mention grooves you might not have ever heard before). Enjoy!

Hi there! I just joined up yesterday after getting my first crabby cheap bass. I’m 52, and I’ve been fantasizing about learning to play bass since I first noticed Geddy Lee when I was 14. I’m more than a little intimidated, but game to try. I plowed through Module 1 yesterday, but I don’t expect to keep up that kind of pace.

Anyhow, good to be here

Welcome, @AdamDickson. Glad you’re here. Just follow Josh’s lead one step at a time and you’ll be thumping in no time. And ask any questions along the way. The gang here is always willing to help. Enjoy!

Hi All, I recently acquired a used 65W amp so I pulled out an old bass that’s been sitting in my closet for the last 15 years. I’ve always wanted to learn music to the point where I’d be able jump in and jam with other people, but I’ve been busy with other things (hence the cobwebs on my gear). I was able to parlay a bread-maker gift from my GF for Christmas into bass lessons so, yeah, I came out on top this year. Ha ha. No prior music experience outside of being the kid they gave one rhythm stick to in elementary school so approaching this as a clean slate.

Welcome, @jacob. Glad you’re here. Regarding bass learning, Beginner to Badass is the best beginner course available. If you haven’t signed up yet, consider doing so. You will learn better and faster with Josh than you will anywhere else. Enjoy!

@MikeC , I’m only a few videos in but, so far, it’s going well. I like the small lessons and I’m hoping the organization will speed up the learning curve. Again, I’m starting from nothing, so it all helps.

Good deal. Congrats on jumping into the lessons.

Absolutely, every bit of technique (and theory) helps immeasurably when you’re just starting out.

Glad to know I’m not the only Bass Veteran who never stepped into the deep end of the pool. I’ve been playing for 20+ years now, completely self taught and pretty much all at church on Sunday mornings. While we’re “contemporary” there isn’t much complex Bass stuff happening. Then I got to learn & play Zach Wilson’s arrangement of “Go Tell It on the Mountain” (youtube it!) last month for Christmas and had so much fun with it, I think it’s time to get some actual depth to my skill set.
