Introduce Yourself! (2024)

Hi, my name is Dax and I started playing bass a few months ago. I started on drums many years ago and I gig (playing drums) regularly with a band that mainly covers Rockabilly tunes. I decided recently that I would like to learn a second instrument and so I am here to do just that. I took my first course over at bass roads, so I have some of the fundamentals down, but I am really looking forward to working through the B2B course here.

Hello! My name is Virginia - but everyone calls me Gilla
I am 40 years old and currently living in Florence, but I lived in more or less 10 different cities in the past 15 years.

I started playing bass 2 years ago. I bought my first bass during the second lockdown, as I was living in Brussels near what is known as “Music Street” because it is plenty of musical instruments shops.
I had a private teacher for 1 year and when I moved to Florence I finally signed up to Beginner to Badass to keep learning (after having loved each one of the videos on youtube :))

I am happy I have picked up the Bass finally. When I was 14 years old and listening to a lot of punk, rock and grunge, I felt I wanted to play. But I was never famous for my sense of rythm - i am also discalculic so everything that related to memorising patterns is kind of difficult for me. After a difficult period of my life I thought: WTF, if I like it i can learn…no need to become a rockstar  And now it is really something that makes me happy and I feel proud I am doing.

I am glad to join this community - and a super super fan of the course <3

Hi, my name is Levin and I’m from Germany. I’m 23 Years old and am currently in the Slap section of the course. The course already taught me enough to be able to jam with some friends and flatmates, so I’m really happy about that!

During most of my childhood I played basoon, but i sadly quit around the time i got 14 years old. I recently picked up playing Bass because i saw one lying around in the Flat i currently live in. Doing so has really increased my appreciation of the music i listen to. I mostly listen to music somewhere on the Rock/Punk/Metal spectrum.

I believe my biggest struggle with playing bass at the moment is rhythm when playing with others, especially syncopation. When playing simple rhythms I’m doing just fine, but when i need to play syncopated 8th notes, or something similar, i often start drifting out of time.

My name is Tom, and I am self-taught (acquiring some bad habits along the way). A couple of decades ago, I used to frequently jam and record with friends in basements and garages. I never really stopped playing the bass, but I reached a plateau some time ago and haven’t made any significant progress since then.

I mostly play what I believe to be a Washburn Mercury Series MB-4 bass. I customized it by sanding and painting it to match my style (i.e., removing the sparkles…) I bought it at a cheap price way back, and it suits me well.

I’m looking forward to this course as it will help me break some of the bad habits I developed due to being self-taught. I am also eager to learn some music theory and improve my skills. Ultimately, my goal is to return to jamming and recording with other musicians, but this time sounding much better than before.

Hello all, I’m a mature amateur who has regularly played Ukulele Bass for fun. I recently joined a group of skilled musicians for some fun jam sessions so I need to progress from basic route note support for the Ukulele ensemble (which works fine) to some proper playing. At least I know where the individual notes are on the fretboard!
