If all else fails just do it up like one of them ole redneck boys, a small pillow and duck tape!
More than possible that’s what it’ll end up. though I do have some proper furniture foam. Case of whether I can get it into the existing space!
Hello Marshpoc, i wish you a lot of fun for your Bass journey.
Congrats on your progress with Mark’s Sight Reading course. It’s really helpful for becoming one with the fretboard without constantly staring at the fretting hand.
Chord Tones Essential is also a great course. It deals with intervals, chord structure, how arpeggios define chords, and a whole lot more. Mark dives deep pretty quickly into chord theory, which is extremely valuable for those who seek to learn the why of how chord tones are the backbone of any bass line.
Depending on a given player’s personal aims and goals, it’s certainly possible to study Sight Reading and Chord Tones at the same time.
The thing to keep in mind, though, is that courses like Chord Tones are designed to present a lot of information in a music school manner, i.e., they are very different than the fun/riff-based structure of B2B. With Mark’s theory courses, students are responsible for learning the concepts and applying them through practice following each lesson: there’s no hand holding. In short, Mark lays it down, but it’s up to you to make it your own.
Hope this helps.
Welcome, @christianm568. Glad you’re here. Enjoy!
Thank you @MikeC
Welcome @christianm568
Have fun!
Hello, my name is Christian. I am 35 and have played drums since I was 13 years old and want to learn bass here with BASSBUZZ. Unfortunately, my living situation does not allow me to play drums for a right now, so I thought I’m learning to play Bass.
I wish everyone a good time and hope to learn a lot here.
Welcome along @christianm568 !
Welcome to the asylum!!
Thanks for the thoughtful reply @MikeC When I was younger I definitely didn’t have the patience for any theory or music reading, hence my not being able to read music, however now I’m quite content to spend some time learning songs I like and some more time learning theory, reading music and memorizing the fretboard. I’m also now quite curious as to the ‘why’ of chord tones, scales, arpeggios etc so I’m really liking Mark’s courses. @JoshFossgreen did enough introduction to music theory in B2B that it really made me hungry to learn more and so far I’m finding the two programs are nicely complementing each other.
Hi @christianm568 welcome , ex drummer here , have fun with the bass , after a while you don’t want to go back to drums
To me bass feels like drumming with notes and a lot less stuff to tow around and happy neighbors
Funny you should say that. I was just thinking about doing that very thing this morning. I found this on amazon and thought a small pillow duct taped around an old pair of overalls would work just great. Then I could sit in a high backed kitchen table chair with another small pillow under me and another small pillow behind my lower back and I can practice til the cows come home!
Ingenuity at its finest!! That’s using the ole noodle
Welcome @christianm568 !

Welcome
Lots to learn, and friends to make
I made a comment to a friend about wanting our 2 year old to get into music, but being too old (mid 40s) to start playing something myself. He suggested looking into learning bass. Two weeks later I’m down the rabbit hole… It seems like the perfect dad instrument where you can kind of groove along with just about anything without stealing the spotlight, not that you can’t if that’s what you are going for.
After watching a bunch a of YouTube videos on starter basses and listening to them I settled on the Sterling by Music Man Ray4, which sounds cool and looks cool. I didn’t dig into them enough to know that it’s a polarizing pick, but enough cool music with sting ray’s to keep me from second guessing the choice too much until I really know what I want out of the next/expensive one. TBH they all still kind of all sound the same to me so I’m along way off from that.
I’ve got it hooked up to a Fender Rumble LT25… sounds fine, has a lot of options I haven’t fiddled with yet.
Working through the B2B course and digging it so far. I’ve also got a copy of Rocksmith 2014, though I’m not sure how useful that’s really going to be at this point.
Goal wise, I would like to be able to play with the friend that suggested this (a drummer) without embarrassing myself and jam out with the little one once I can get an instrument in her hands.
Welcome. @DanW. Glad you’re here. Great bass choice. Enjoy the lessons!
Welcome @DanW ! There’s an app to accompany the LT25 from Fender that will help you fiddle with the features.
