@NeuroticBalance, those songs you want to play? Whether you think they are beginner songs or not, get in it and play them. Everyone learns at their pace-there isn’t any sort of definitive scale as to what is easy and what isn’t.
What’s important is you get your bass in your hands and play it. Plus Everyone here started as a beginner, so people here are very kind and understanding of exactly how it feels to be right at the start.
Welcome to the nicest forum on the internet. My friend!

Hello all. I’ll be 65 in a week and a half, living in Indiana. I’ve dabbled in bass before but never got serious about it until now. I’ve always gravitated toward the bass and drums when listening to music (Rolling Stones, Beatles, Black Sabbath, Foghat, 70s and 80s groups, a few 90s). I aim to be the next Flea! Seriously though, I doubt I’ll ever be able to play that fast but I think I can learn adequately enough for myself. I bought a Jackson Spectra bass from Sweetwater and as soon as the rest of my equipment gets here (any day now), I’m off and running! I’ve already signed up for Josh’s course, can’t wait. I look forward to being here.

Hi welcome to the asylum @NeuroticBalance , almost the same story here, wanted to pay bass at 14 years old, but everybody wanted to be mark king then , so no bass players wanted
Started playing the drums instead…
But the blood creeps where it can’t go  and at 49 I started playing bass

Yes! I went for Piano because we already had one and I love the instrument as well. I haven’t played in ages, though, and I’ve turned rebellious in my old age. It’s time for some bass! :sunglasses:

I’m lucky because some songs I want to learn are in Josh’s course and others are easy to find online. I’ve been compiling a list with songs which will turn in objectives to keep track of my progress.

Hi! I’m 38 y/o (as of today ) mom of 2.
I started playing bass 15 years ago. My first bass was Yamaha RBX 170 with, what I see now, too high action. I was trying to teach myself to play only through tabs and without any prior musical knowledge and gave up really quickly.
At the beginning of this year I went to pregnancy leave and had few extra hours during the day which resulted in purchase of Sire MM V7.
Now I’m going through Beginner to Badass course and find it very easy to follow, even with 2 month old baby in the house.
