Hi everyone, I’m Chris and I’m from Essex in England. I have been playing the bass guitar for about 3 years. My wife decided I should learn to play when I retired at 66, so I’m 69 in a few weeks time. The reason my wife wanted me to start playing is because she plays the guitar (I don’t how she manages with all those strings ). So I purchased a Squire starter kit and a book and taught myself and gradually got so far I could play along to some blues songs and back her guitar playing. Recently I’ve felt like I’m stuck in a bit of a rut so I decided to join up and start again to try and get a more structured way of learning. I have sold my Squire P.J. bass and now have a 1962 reissue from 1984 Fender MIJ Jazz bass in Olympic White, Fender MIM Precision bass in two tone Sunburst with the correct neck but with a Jazz bass decal under the lacquer, how that got past quality control, who knows? I also have a Squire Telecaster bass in white, quite rare as only made for a couple of years and is a Tele shape, Epiphone Jack Casady semi hollow in red and Epiphone Thunderbird in two tone Sunburst and finally a Fender Kingman acoustic in Black. I play these through an Ashdown Engineering Studio 10 amp, Ashdown are a company based in Essex. I also still have my Fender Rumble 15 that I got with my Squire starter kit. If you got to the end of this ramble then that’s it and thank you.
Chris.
Welcome, @Hillsie. Glad you’re here. Enjoy!
Thanks for the welcome @MikeC . I see you’re from Stevie Ray Vaughan country, absolutely love him.
Me, too! I saw Stevie play dozens of times, and I got to chat with him twice. I even got to strum his fave axe “Number One.” It had heavy gauge strings and high action. The dude had him some badass forearm and hand muscles!
Welcome @Hillsie
Have fun!
Welcome Chris @Hillsie
Quite a collection you got there, and started with a squire afinity kit, just like me
Welcome along @Hillsie !
Welcome @Hillsie , glad to read that your wife got you motivated
Cheers
Welcome @Hillsie !
Wow . That’s some kudos. My claim to fame is that I used to put the drum kit up for Ron Rocket Matthews, who was the original drummer when Iron Maiden first started out, Friday night residency at the Cart And Horses pub in Stratford, East London. I would also take Steve Harris around in my old Ford because he didn’t drive at the time. I could ask Steve a lot of things about bass playing now
Thanks. She stopped playing for about 20 years and saw Justin Johnson on YouTube and that motivated her to dig the Strat out the loft, she then ordered me to get a bass and learn
Both are fine instruments.
Glad your here, enjoy…
These words have never been posted in this exact order in this forum, ever. Ev-er.
