Hi there, I’m Paul, spent nearly the past 13 years between NY and California, now back in Ireland.
Started bass when I was 16 playing(probably terrible?) Blink 182 covers with some school friends. Was good fun, but never really learned properly I guess!
Bass has been up in my parents attic for years, turning 40 this year decided to dust it off and give it a go again.
Old SX bass, also seems to be the only brand my local music store stocks for bass but does the job. All the signatures are from my classmates, played bass during my secondary school (American: High School) graduation.
Welcome, @paulg85. Glad you’re here. Many guitarists consider naphtha (found in lighter fluid) to be a safe option for removing sticky residue left from stickers as it is generally considered safe for most finishes, including nitrocellulose. Enjoy!
Correct @MikeC
My hope was that the bass had been in the attic for 40 years and I am really not that old. Kinda freaks me out that I could’ve had a forty year old son these days. But damn were the 80’s a hoot.
I joined about a month ago, and I have been lurking the forum and enjoying the course
I used to play drums, but after moving to London and not being able to practice in my flat, I was missing playing music.
So got myself a bass!
Hey, I’m James, a professional bass player, educator, and session musician based in Peterborough, UK. I’ve built my career on delivering solid, professional bass playing in both live and studio settings, working across multiple bands and genres.
I perform regularly with my bands, Laketown (a contemporary country band), The Motor City Vipers (a Motown/soul band) and Midsummer Knights (a wedding/function band), bringing pocket, musicality, and presence to every performance.
My playing is shaped by legends like James Jamerson, Pino Palladino, Marcus Miller, and Jaco Pastorius.
Whether on stage or in the studio, I focus on precision, feel, and knowing exactly what the music needs.
Welcome, @forjam30. Glad you’re here. Really impressive background you have. Looking forward to hearing your insights on learning and playing bass. Enjoy the forum!
