Hello! I’m Brandon. I picked up the bass recently because my daughter decided recently that she wanted to play and I thought it would something fun we could do together. I’ve always loved music but never really been a musician. I dabbled in guitar for awhile but never took to it enough to really learn it beyond a handful of riffs and pieces of songs. I’m happy to be here and I’m learning so much.

Hi,

I’m Alex and a few days ago I decided to buy my first bass setup. I have a little musical experience having played the drums for a good few years when I was younger and worked through all the grades. I’ve done a couple lessons from the course and I’m already feeling a lot more confident so I’m eager to keep going and see how good I can get!

I’m another accidental bass player–the typical story of joining a band with too many guitarists and no bass player. Fine, I’ll do it! Everyone plays guitar better than me anyway. And I find I really like it, though I have a lot to learn. A lot!

My bass is an orphan–an old Peavey that was abandoned in a garage that I rescued and named Gerald. Working on Gerald with the help of a million YouTube videos has taught me a lot. One of the pickups was sagging into the body, so I opened it up and saw that little springs push the pickups upward, while the screws push it down. A spring was missing so I took one from a click pen and trimmed it to fit, and holy shit, that worked!! My proudest moment. Now Gerald is nice and loud, though he has other issues. Don’t we all though?

My current goals include learning how to sing back up while playing. Like many things, it felt impossible at first but really does start to come with practice. I remember Nick Lowe telling beginners that if you can play bass and sing at the same time then you’re starting to do something right.

I’m happy to find this forum because no one in my IRL life wants to talk about basses as much as I do, including my bandmates, so really looking forward to geeking out with you all.

I’m in Seattle BTW. Nice to meet y’all!

Welcome @davidstoesz. Glad you’re here. There are quite a few of us guitar players on the forum. Like you (and McCartney, by the way), I played bass in a band because I had to. It was great fun, but I came to BassBuzz to learn how to play properly. You’ll learn a lot from Josh and all the great Buzzers. Enjoy!
