I love that fretless with the horizontal tuners tbh. I’m not all that interested in playing a fretless but I think that thing is gorgeous.

I started the course a couple of months ago, but never introduced myself. I am a 62 year old wannabe musician who has been playing instruments off and on since before I was 5. At 5 I had a hard time getting into She’ll Be Comin’ Around the Mountain, but once in college I started to learn to play bluegrass. Of course, jobs got in the way. The best I ever got to feeling confident was when I was in an amateur ukulele group, because I was playing 1-2 hours a day. The uke really improved my strumming skills and I was also at the point where I could hear something and kind of play it. So as of 12 years ago or so, I had three acoustic guitars, a Fender strat, bunches of recorders, several ukes (my 1930’s Martin Soprano is a joy), a dulcimer (made by Warren May in KY), a baby Martin (my kids stopped playing it), a 12 string Seagull (my wife stopped playing it), and a Gretsch Jim Dandy (wail on it to get amazing sound). Once my daughters showed an interest in playing RockSmith, I bought an Ibanez bass to play along. I had never considered playing bass, but it was blast. And then life got in the way I didn’t play for a while. Then (as it always happens) a few months ago I bought Meshell Ndegeocello’s vinyl No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin. I was blown away by some of the bass lines on that album. So I signed up for this course and then also bought a JMJ Mustang and Fender Rumble 40. Now I switch between the two. For Christmas my wife bought me a second Rumble 40, so both basses are ready to go with their own amps. What I like most about the course is (unexpectedly) the music theory. I had avoided that before, thinking that you either got music innately or you didn’t and assuming that I just didn’t get it. Now that I’ve learned a bit of theory it has given me confidence that I never had. My 19 year old daughter was singing before she could speak. I’m helping her work on songs. She has the natural ability to hear something and then mostly pick it out on the piano, but she lacks confidence when it comes to writing music. So thanks Josh for this course. It brings much needed joy to my life.

@johnson.todd.r Welcome!!

Josh has a clever way of sneaking much ‘need to know’ stuff in his course in a super fun way :slight_smile: … and doesn’t make it feel like ‘homework’ :slight_smile:

So glad you are enjoying it! Hang around and enjoy the madness with the rest of us! :slight_smile:

Howdy yall. 40 years old, used to play guitar and bass in some blues and prog rock bands here in Vegas in my late teens/early 20s, but life happens. Havent really played in close to 20 years, but i’m getting back into now to destress and decompress. Used to build/rebuild my own stuff back in the day, so that’s what i’m doing again for my first Jazz Bass. Almost done, still waiting on the nut. But i’m down to meet some folks and do some talking, maybe help each other out. And if anyone needs help or has questions about doing their own mods/upgrades, i’d be happy to help with those, too. Nice to meet everyone!

Hi everone,
72 year old Newbie here. My music background consists of playing trumpet in fifth grade and a little singing in church and community choirs. However I have always been enamored by the bass parts in songs my whole life. Pretty exited about finally playing some of them. Onward!

Haha true, maybe that’s why bass spoke to me more than guitar :slight_smile:

Trumpet was my first instrument as well in school band! :slight_smile: Didn’t do it for me … LOL Then My brother got a bass… I got a guitar from the parental units… both of us were not pleased… so we traded. LOL
