The old shneckie, I know it well. Hope all is good up there.
Yeah all good here! Though as always, after a lovely spring it’s just the usual dreich drizzly summer weather now!
Hello! I’m Sarah, from Milwaukee originally but for the past 7 years living and working in China (am I the first person to ever take the course from China? Maybe not but who knows!)
I come from a family of musicians, not garage jam musicians but more like white tie Carnegie Hall musicians. I’m about the only one who has always looked at music as a fun hobby rather than ever having considered it as a career path. I greatly enjoy singing and play the piano and ukulele as well as a little guitar (and I’m not ashamed of that :D)
Other interests include chess, Rubik’s cubes, history, knitting, languages and D&D. I especially love reading and am currently in the middle of Lord of the Rings. (wow, in hindsight I’m really just a huge freaking nerd lol)
I’ve been watching the YouTube videos for a long while now but never really considered playing until recently when I finally just said ‘you know what, why not’. So last week I ordered* a lovely dark blue J bass which I will happily share a photo of as soon as I can find a decent background somewhere in my apartment
*I should say that one of the minor hazards of living here is that we simply don’t have giant music stores to go and try instruments (except pianos, because sometimes stereotypes are true) so ordering online is often the only real option
Welcome @SarahEJ - glad to have you aboard!

Welcome @SarahEJ and I sure do miss the old County Stadium. The new stadium is beautiful and all but still. Keep us posted on your progress and enjoy this hobby
Stay Groovy ,
Cheers
I was never at the old stadium, though I do remember what a big deal it was when they were building the new. I’ve been there a couple times (once for a fundraiser and once because it was free) but I don’t particularly love being under an open roof in hot weather
Then you aren’t old enough to have seen Pink Floyd on the Animals tour stop there. What a show! And the windowpane I scored was amazing. I drove my lavender '61 Caddy and had 5 other guys with me. After the concert, we were chilling in the car. There was a knock on the window. The security guard asked whose car it was. I said it was mine. He said we were the last car in the lot and had to leave. So I had to get out of the middle of the back seat and drive us back to Madtown. I don’t remember the drive, but I’m still here, so it worked out in the end.
I’ve actually never been to any stadium concert - I know how memorable of an experience it’s always said to be, but late nights, large crowds, bright flashing lights and high noise levels are all factors that don’t play well with me I think I’ll just stick to seeing live music in concert halls and watching giant arena spectacles on film.
Sounds like you had a great time though!
What’s up everyone. Happy to be here. My wife got me lessons for father’s day.
I got my first bass around age 16 or 17. Traded a drum set for it. Took a few lessons, but like a jerk teen, flaked on my instructor and stopped going because I didn’t want to learn scales. Played trumpet in high school, and did not care for it, but I stuck with it out of guilt, so I had some music fundamentals. Basically taught myself what I could since then, but kind of hit a wall. Now I’m 39, with a wife and three kids, and I started taking lessons again. I’m kind of just a bedroom player. Never played a gig. Don’t really plan to, either. Just doing this for fun.
